I was a little thin skinned the day I posted, because I had just been violently engaged on another board regarding the same subject.

I must admit that after reading some of the exchanges between Louis, Mili, Tibor and others, the spoiled children dig was pretty docile. Sorry for my flippant remark.

By the way, nice tits.

Hope things work out for you guys USCemper. I don't really have any issue with USC or Mike Williams. I agree that he knew the risks and IF the NCAA makes him suffer the consequences, it wouldn't bother me in the least. I think it's obvious that he has no intention of finishing up his degree (at least in the short term), so I don't see any up side to the NCAA helping him out of this jamb. I'm sure they're nervious about sending the wrong message to future athletes.

Mike seems like a nice enough person, even though I have heard rumors (mild at best) to the contrary. It would be a shame if he loses a year of play because he followed Maurice down the rabbit hole.

In my intial post I indicated my optimism regarding Williams re-instatement, but I neglected to mention my personal feelings about this matter.

Contrary to what the majority of posters seem to believe, there are complex and convoluted legal issues pertaining to this unprecedented situation. From a judicial stand-point, I can see why the University is as positive as I am about this particular case.

As a homer and an avid supporter of the USC football team, there is nothing more enjoyable than admiring big Mike isolated wide-left on a mortal DB. Conversly, as a USC graduate, I am concerned about the return of a player who would essentially become a temporary starter solely for the purpose of enhancing his draft positioning until next year.

Ethically, I would have been more confortable had he intimated during his latest news conference an intention to wanting to complete his football eligibility at the school. But such assertion remained conspicuous in its absence.

USC has strict academic requirements and it has become increasingly more challenging for "normal" HS students to gain admission to the school. I dread that no matter how extenuating Mike Williams' ciscumstances might be, this affair could cast an unfavorable impression on the academic integrity and excellence of the school, and elicit the inevitable scrutiny of the NCAA infraction committee if something irregular and/or questionable would surface
after his potential re-instatement.

I am sure that the USC attorneys have conducted an extensive background research on this historic court decision, but I inherently mistrust the NCAA and its elitist approach to student/athlete affairs.

But I am a USC football fan first and an admitted hypocrite, so..................

USCemper ... I understand your views completely. I will offer this piece of advice "take nothing for granted". As the Maurice Clarett saga has shown Buckeye fans (and football fans across the country), there are many "experts" and even more opinions, but no one knows what tomorrow may bring.

At the very least, Mike Williams will have public opinion and general good will on his side. These are cards that Maurice wasted and never had the opportunity to play. For the most part, Maurice made his bed and has been forced to sleep in it. You (and USC fans) can have a clear conscience while supporting Mike, something we as Buckeyes had difficulty in doing with Maurice.

Wow, I didn't expect that.

I notice the guy who gave the information didn't post a link to a source. At the same time, nobody questioned him, so maybe they respect his info?

If this is true, I assume the NCAA must assume that this won't be a precedent to future incidents, and this was a one time thing due to the strange sitution with the court rulings.

I still am not sure if I understand the reasoning for letting him back, however, in that many kids, in other sports, can't just leave, find out it won't work, and come back (though in different circumstances).

Huh.

Yep. You can go pro in baseball, but apparently not skiiing (Jeremy Bloom).

Are the NCAA rules concerning amateurism archaic? Probably so. Did Mike Williams violate those rules nonetheless? Yes. Is he going to be given a reprieve that others would not get because he and his school are currently the BCS's golden egg? You betcha!!!

Regardless of what BP posters may think of USC, Mike Williams ALLEGED re-instatement is big football news.

All methomps did was to list a site with the news, without even mentioning his personal opinions. What's the big deal?
