Seattle WR Mike Williams (official thread)

i noticed that too tibor. it was great because ive always been on the side of the NCAA on this. mark may makes it sound like hes a dumb 19 year old who had no idea what he was doing. i guess NOBODY gave him any advice?

NCAA made the right move. the only thing that can be questioned is the timing....but i dont know how long they knew they would say NO.

I'm getting extremely sick of ESPN. Poor Mike Williams. Free Mike Williams.

I'll make it really really simple for everyone. There are rules. Mike knew the rules, and chose to break them. Mikey shat on the bun, now he should just simle and enjoy the sandwich.

I don't care what your opinion of the NCAA's policies is--bottom line, mike CHOSE to give up his amateur status. He knew full well what he was doing. Stop whining about it in the hopes of promoting your own agendas, ESPN "anal"ysts.

Obviously people forget that the "rules changed".

He was temporarily eligible for the draft, and at the same time, the NCAA must have changed their rule that said hiring an agent would result in a permanent loss of college eligibility.

Then after Clarett lost his lawsuit, the NCAA must have changed their policy back regarding the agents.

Pardon me, I've just been informed that the NCAA rules never changed. Obviously I've been misled by media morons.

Never mind.

M.Williams comments on SlickPeteFormer USC receiver Mike Williams had an interesting

This caught my eye as I was checking up on the combine:

Former USC receiver Mike Williams had an interesting but predictable revelation about the doting he received from the Trojans' coaching staff during his one year in football purgatory. "I was getting calls from coaches at SC, wondering how I was doing, how I was holding up, making sure I was OK, making sure (I told them if) I need anything," Williams said. "As soon as they found out I couldn't get back into school, the phone stopped ringing. And I have no problem with that."

At least he's not in prison.

The Tennessee Titans released wide receiver Mike Williams before Thursday afternoon's practice. The Titans signed Williams, the 10th overall pick in the 2005 draft by the Detroit Lions, last Thanksgiving and told him after the season to get his weight and conditioning under control.Williams weighed around 270 pounds when he signed with Tennessee and lost more than 30 pounds this offseason in an effort to salvage his career.

Petey got him a chance in seattle

Mike Williams admits he's "rusty" at Seahawks' minicamp | ProFootballTalk.com

Mike Williams, the former Top 10 draft bust for the Lions, hasn't played in an NFL game since 2007. But his old USC coach, Pete Carroll, is giving him a chance in Seattle, and after a minicamp practice this week, Williams admitted he has plenty of rust to shake off.

"It's like riding a bike -- except the bike is a little rusty right now," he said.

The reason Williams is rusty may be related to the reason he was never successful in the NFL in the first place: He hasn't been working hard at staying in shape. Although Williams says he started working out with a personal trainer in October of 2009 (inspired in part by Carroll during a visit to USC), he admits that he wasn't in great shape for the year and a half he was out of football prior to that. Williams said that before he started training in October he was doing "nothing, nothing important, nothing I can remember."

But now Williams says he's committed to football again.

"I've really embraced every aspect of this -- from even just having my name on the back of a jersey," Williams said. "This is definitely a great opportunity. I appreciate the Seahawks, obviously."
