Countdown, major questions heading into Signing Day

Even though Henderson has shown a superb poker face, most experts consider his national triangle of finalist - Ohio State, Florida State and USC - a farce. Everyone is picking Ohio State. We'll see what he says in 24 hours on CBS.

Console yourself with this thought: although USC may end up with Seantrel (or may not), they most assuredly have Lane Kiffin.

Outstanding post.

Too true. They could get every 5 star for the next 5 years but...

Lane Kiffin is still their coach.

And what's the attraction any way? This guy has been a loser everywhere he has been. If you can't see through this guy and Ed Orgeron

Seantrel Henderson update No. 1
Tuesday, February 02, 2010
By: Stephen Spiewak

5:44 p.m. EST Seantrel Henderson has arrived.

Henderson made his way to the CBS College studios here in New York City about an hour and a half ago to do a dry run for his big announcement tomorrow.

No one around here has any idea where Henderson is heading, and no one will know until he announces his decision tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. EST.
Some production details still need to be worked out, but it appears as if Henderson's announcement may not involve a hat selection--something that recruiting fans have gotten used to.

Because he brings his dad with him.

Brian Kelly is confident top recruit Seantrel Henderson picks Notre Dame on Wednesday
Posted on Tuesday, February 02, 2010 at 06:09 PM
by Sean O'Shea

Wednesday is National Signing Day for college recruits and D Day for Brian Kelly and his Notre Dame staff. That is when the key college players left unsigned will make their decisions known.

According to the South Bend Tribune the main names to watch for the Irish are; Seantrel Henderson, who was the Parade Magazine Player of the Year. He is is a 6-foot-8, 340-pound offensive tackle from St. Paul, Minn and went to the same school as wide receiver Michael Floyd. Henderson would be a huge 'get' for Notre Dame but Kelly is said to be confident he has bagged him although USC and Ohio State are probably favorites.

Rivals.com loves him "Other than his massive body size, Henderson is extremely nimble and agile on his feet, especially laterally. He gets that from playing basketball when he's not training for football. Henderson also has great hand placement during pass protection, thus being able to direct the pass rusher outside the pocket."

Henderson visited Miami last weekend and will decide among the Hurricanes, the Irish, Southern California, Ohio State and Florida.
Like many others Henderson will announce his decision Wednesday afternoon on CBS College Network in New York.

How are recruits ranked?
Updated February 02, 2010
FoxSports

...
Q: Seantrel Henderson has been the top-ranked player in Scout's rankings throughout the course of the recruiting year. Why was he the wire-to-wire No. 1?

SK: With these rankings, you're trying to predict the future. Obviously, that's an impossible task; you're trying to project what these guys are going to do, how they're going to finish their careers. Are they going to be All-Americans, are they going to be first-round NFL draft picks, or will they be both? Seantrel's a guy who should be both. If you were building a prototype offensive tackle on your NCAA football video game, this is the guy you would build. He's 6-foot-8, 300 pounds, he plays basketball so he has nimble feet. He's got long arms, and despite the fact that he's a two-sport athlete, he's not soft. He is tenacious on the offensive line and isn't afraid to hit somebody. So he's got size, he's got athleticism, he's got the mentality. Basically, he's the perfect offensive tackle recruit. Now, the last time I heard that about a guy was when Tony Mandarich was in school, and he ended up flopping. And that's what you don't know, is how are these guys going to handle the next level, and how are they going to handle the acclamation to going to classes. There's no such thing as a sure thing, but he's as close as we can get.

Q: How did Henderson fare at the postseason all-star games and practices? Did he live up to his billing?

SK: Yeah, he did. In the one-on-one drills during the practices, he had to pass protect almost exclusively, which gives an automatic advantage to the defense because they know what's coming. We may have seen some guys beat him in practice, but I don't think you're going to see too many beat him in games, because they don't know for sure whether the pass or run is coming and can't pin their ears back.

Not often you see the recruiting media being so explicit about a coach's confidence in landing a recruit. Actually, I don't recall one instance that is so blatant.

That's because it's an NCAA violation for coaches to speak to the media about recruits before they sign.

That story is toeing the line IMO.

I thought coaches were prohibited from speaking about recruits directly pre-signing day!! :wink2:

Yep, but notice the wording:

"Kelly is said to be..." means somebody else said it about him. It's either a violation or it's conjecture designed to drive internet traffic during signing week. Either way, it's par for the course for this week.
