You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means... [/inigo]

Timetable for Henderson's college choice
Posted by John Millea
Last update: February 2, 2010 - 2:39 PM
Seantrel Henderson is scheduled to reveal his college decision between 4 and 5 p.m. Wednesday, according to a news release that just arrived at Star Tribune World Headquarters.
The subject line on the email said: "Signing Day on CBS College Features Top Recruits and Top Coaches." That's pretty much par for the course in the hyper-frenetic world of college recruiting.
Here's more from the pre-announcement announcement:
"CBS College Sports Network will offer extensive coverage of college football?s National Signing Day on Wednesday, Feb. 3, including five hours of live coverage and live college announcements from the top two un-committed high school players, offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson (Cretin-Derham Hall/St. Paul, Minn.) and defensive end J.R. Ferguson (Hargrave Military Academy/Frederick, MD.). Coverage kicks off on CBS College Sports Network with a one-hour program from 11:00 AM ? 12:00 NOON, ET, followed by four, live continuous hours of coverage from 3:00 ? 7:00 PM, ET. Henderson, Lemming?s No. 1-ranked overall recruit, will make his exclusive, live announcement in the 5:00 PM, ET hour."
I received a text this morning from Henderson's father, Sean Henderson, that said simply, "on plane to ny now."

MIAMI, Fla-Buckeyes fans, this could be that extra push you need to land one of the nation?s most coveted recruits.
With National Signing Day less than 24 hours from now, several universities are doing everything in their power to land the country?s top offensive tackle prospect, Seantrel Henderson.
Henderson, a 6?7?, 295-pound five-star recruit from Saint Paul, Minnesota is considering USC, Miami, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Florida.
At Super Bowl Media Day in Miami, Florida this afternoon, I had a chance to talk with former Ohio State Buckeye and current New Orleans Saints cornerback Malcolm Jenkins, who decided to make a recruiting pitch of his own to help his alma mater land the highly-coveted Henderson.

Thinking No. 1 offensive line recruit Seantrel Henderson will pick USC over Ohio State
By Doug Lesmerises, The Plain Dealer

As was just posted on Cleveland.com, Ohio State has seemed to be in pretty good shape with Seantrel Henderson for several weeks, ever since the coaching situations at Notre Dame, USC and Florida changed so much. Earlier this week, two different national recruiting experts, Tom Lemming and Jeremy Crabtree, told me they believed Ohio State was the leader for Henderson.
Henderson, the No. 1 offensive line recruit in the nation and a consensus top five high school senior, will be in New York on Wednesday, announcing his college choice somewhere between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Lemming's show on CBS College Sports Network. So Lemming's analysis especially carries some weight.
But the guess here is that the Buckeyes won't win out. A source close to the situation said this afternoon that the expectation is that Henderson will sign with USC on Wednesday. And there have been several other recruiting sites, as well as this St. Paul Pioneer Press story, also predicting that the Trojans will land Henderson.

Huge Henderson latest teen to preen on over-the-top signing day

We, the fans, will do our part by watching, or least that's what the cable network is counting on. It is flying Henderson to New York to make his decision. That seems to cross some sort of threshold, even in these days of over-the-top recruiting. Players routinely declare their college intentions on TV these days, but it's usually at their school, a local studio or at an all-star game.
But to fly the player halfway across the country to announce the biggest decision of his life? Sounds both fantastic and a bit exploitive.
"This is the first time I've ever heard of it," Cretin-Derham Hall coach Mike Scanlan said.
It is happening because two years ago Lemming made Henderson his No. 1 player. A bond was formed with the player and family. Nothing has changed except recruiting hype.
"Is too big a deal made out of them six months later when they're in college?" Lemming asked rhetorically. "Or the Olympics who deal with the 14-year-old gymnasts?"
Good point, except that parents are also willing to slap makeup on their 6-year-olds to get them into kiddie beauty pageants, too. Which is more unsavory, pre-pubescent gymnasts or prepackaged adolescent superstars?
Either way, the kids-as-commerce trend is way past the point of slowing down. If you're any good, it is woven into your high school experience. Sometimes you don't have to wait until then.

Console yourself with this thought: although USC may end up with Seantrel (or may not), they most assuredly have Lane Kiffin.NFBuck;1653640; said:I'd just like to state for the record that I have no idea where Seantrelk is going to pick tomorrow. I am, however, preparing to go to my favorite comfort food restaurant and drown myself in a mountain of meatloaf and mashed potatoes and gravy. Oh, the humanity. How would my life go on without Seantrelk?
