I don't want to play fair I'm a thugs-are-us coach
Anytime someone loses their life at such a young age....it's especially sad. He had 10-15 more years possibly to carve out his legacy, and be remembered, as one of the best NFL DB's ever. I doubt concomittantly would have been the next Thomas Jefferson or Thomas Edison in the area of intellectual pursuits, but he could have had an epiphany where he became charitable with the many advantages he'd been given. If you're a troubled person, as he reportedly was, you're not necessarily stubborn and set in your ways, and thus change is possible. He supposedly was in the midst of a maturation process.
Also, it's especially sad when your life is taken not by your own hand, or the hand of nature or God, but the hand of another. Someone thought they were justified to circumvent the natural life progression of another, and induce its premature conclusion, as a fellow human being who is less qualified to make that determination.
Plus, he has a young daughter who has no male role model, and won't ever have a concious memories of her father. Not to mention the heartache of his wife and other family members.
RIP
