You folks are blowing off the losses on our defense like it's nothing. We didn't lose near as much defensive talent after the 2003 season and look how long it took the defense to gel in 2004 (remember Iowa)? By the end of next season the defense will be solid, but the first few games will be a major break-in process, and the Texas game could be an ass-whipping if Young is back. If Youboty bolts, we'll lose nine starters on defense, people...

I know. People haven't seemed to grasp just losing Hawk alone will hurt us tremendously let alone our entire secondary and Kudla on our defensive line. I really hope Youboty and Whitner stay. I think both could be All-Americans.

Mili, weren't you the one who on the front page said that "we should go no worse than 11-1."

Next year is going to be a very tough year at the start. If VY comes back, I don't think we are going to go into Austin and win that game. Even if VY doesn't come back, it's going to take quite an effort to pull off that win. PSU could be a tough game with their LB's and their WR's on offense. However, they don't have an experienced DL for those LB's, much like Iowa this year. By the end of the year (scUM game) we should be one of the best teams in the country. Hopefully with the favorable schedule (minus the UT game), we can go into that scUM game unbeaten and looking for our 4th Fiesta Bowl victory in 5 years.

Go Bucks!!!
:oh: :io:

Yes, and I clearly explained that although we'll have a tough time initially on defense, aside from Texas our early games are still winnable. We have no one on our early schedule who approaches Texas offensively. My 11-1 prediction was predicated on Young staying...if he bolts, I think our chances to run the table are still quite good. My main point was that many are thinking that we can realistically handle a Vince Young-led Texas team on their home field with a defense with only 2-3 returning starters. Our young defense will have to be unreal that day to hold Young's production to where we can outscore them.

My personal expectation level starts at 9-3 for next year. Any better and I'm estatic any worse and something went very wrong.

Complete reload on D and the Kicker.

Thats the very heart of Treselball folks and while there will be no lack of talent there will be a significant lack of experience. Does anyone remember how porous these same defenders we are now losing were in early 2004? They didn't get more talented as the year went on, they got more comfortable and got to the point where they could play fast instead of thinking what to do and where to go.

The positives will be an O on par with '98 and '95 teams. With Pittman/Wells/Haw and Wells we'll have a true stable of RB's for the first time since 2002 and hopefully we can play a lot of ball control O to help out the young D.

The other big positive for me is that aside from UT thats a pretty favorable schedule. PSU and scUM at home with MSU, Illinois, NU and Iowa being the road tests. You just cant ask for much better than that.

The D will be fast, athletic, hard hitting and good tacklers, these things are a given under Tress. The difference between a nice 9 win season and a championship run will hinge on the speed of their development imo.

Agreed. When you lose 8-9 starters on what has carried you for the most part over the years you have some questions.

Texas and Michigan I think we are underdogs. I also think the young defense might not be ready when we go into Iowa and play that offense they should have over there.

Just for shits, Jax, which three games do you see us losing? I would guess the Texas and Iowa road games as two of the three...

Don't really have a set 3 teams, obviously UT is the most probable.

I just think its entirely possible to drop a game like @MSU or @ Iowa or maybe even a a home game if the D just has a horrible ass day and the O can't bail 'em out for whatever reason.

By probability I'd rate potential losses this way(not saying we'll lose them all obviously)

UT(if VY returns this is almost impossible)
@ Iowa(best team besides UT we play on the road)
@MSU(they play us tough and the coach will be playing for his job next year)
scUM(a season in itself regardless of recent success)
PSU(this would shock me but they aren't completely devoid of talent by any means)
anyone else would be a fucking shocker.

My take on each game. I say we win all but the Texas game, and that game depends on Young being there or not:

Northern Illinois (MAC team, 'nuff said)
@ Texas (Young, or no Young, is the key)
Cincinnati (They just don't have the horses)
Penn State (They lose a ton of starters and they just don't win in The Shoe)
@ Iowa (We now have an offense to keep our defense off the field)
Bowling Green (MAC team, Jacobs won't be good enough)
@ Michigan State (Their team is in total disarray)
Indiana W (Like a comment is needed here)
Minnesota W (Their running game won't be good enough to set up the pass)
@ Illinois W (It's Illinois, people)
@ Northwestern W (Genius, er, Basenez is gone)
Michigan W (We own them)

No shit-I hate seeing all the experts hype us as #2 in the nation. Freeman, Laurinaitis, Jamo', Mitchell, and Amos need to step up big.
