Scenarios for Final CFP Playoff Rankings

With the most recent CFP poll release it's pretty clear that, barring a UGA upset of LSU in the SEC CG, the 4th team is going to be the Oregon/Utah winner.

They are both above OU right now. As long as the ultimate winner doesn't drop another game I think your 4th team is 1 loss PAC 12 champ Oregon.

For a bonus guess that will likely not come true: I think they jigger the final rankings so that the SEC vs ACC teams play in ATL and the B1G vs PAC are out west

I agree. The committee is praying for no upsets in the PAC 12 and LSU as SEC champs. Despite what the talking heads will try to say, there will be virtually no doubt of the four participants in that scenario.

My not likely bonus guess is 12-1 Oregon would take the fourth spot over 12-1 LSU.

Well there’s no way that 1-loss PAC will be higher than 4, and equally no way that undefeated LSU isn’t 1.
the final rankings are about eyeballs and money nothing else... otherwise you wind up with what we had that first year with the National Title game in the semi’s...

besides you know the B1G and PAC12 reps will be lobbying hard for a “rosebowl II”

I think if Ohio State dominates through the final 3 games and LSU continues to win but struggles on D, there's a really good chance Ohio State nabs the 1 seed. Beneficial in multiple ways because it would likely be against the Pac-12 champ (as opposed to Clemson), who would then have to travel to Atlanta for the semifinal.

Disagree here

Undefeated Ohio State will have 5 ranked wins. Same as LSU. They’re SOS will look very similar, but Ohio State has won by far more impressive margins and looks like a more complete team.
I think there is no way a 13-0 Ohio State team isn’t #1.

From ESPN and Allstate (so basically Dean Winters and Heather WhatsHerFace):

I'm pretty sure I liked it better when it was us against the world (especially since I bought those plane tickets to NOLA):

Championship odds mirror my feelings at the moment. Looking more and more like the Tigers are the only team with the tools to hang with this team*.

* - assuming they don't shoot themselves in the foot like they flirted with today.

Clemson has to be treated as a giant unknown.
They could be overrated. They could be world beaters.
They could end up soft after not being challenged all year.
They could be peaking at the right moment fully healthy because they didn't have to play a single game until December.

One thing I don't like is that teams will have seen what to expect from us today, in terms of tendencies, how Day and Fields react in a close game. And it looks very Urban - JT like.
We need to break expectations like a bad Rian Johnson movie / D&D GoT Season8 if we want to make it past them.

Okay:

Auburn beats Alabama
LSU beats Georgia in SECCG
Oregon beats Utah in Pac12cg
OU loses to OK state OR Baylor

Fuck the committee but that shits rough, and it’s not that insane.

Baylor?

Even if Alabama would beat Auburn, its best win is against a team with...4 losses.

The Big 12 chaos scenario has to be:

OU losing to imposter OSU and then beating Baylor, or
Baylor losing to Kansas and then beating OU.

Otherwise, the Big 12 champ is a lock if the other scenarios occur.

Possibly Minny or ND.
But if SECCG isn't a blowout, I'd say Georgia -- and committee would hang their hat on that impressive beatdown of ND (just pretend that scUM and SC never happened )

yeah, Oregon did all of us SEC haters no favors this weekend. Scenarios decreasing every week where the committee won't some how find a way to sneak two SEC teams into the CFP.

Auburn (+3 1/2) beats Bama and LSU beats UGA...there is your scenario for only 1 SEC team. Not that big of a stretch with Tua out.

OTOH, if UGA beats LSU, it guarantees the SEC 2 spots
