Scenarios for Final CFP Playoff Rankings

Exactly. Bucks performance last night was concerning. Yes, the comeback was good and facing adversity and beating it has benefits. But what we’ve seen over the past 3 weeks is not a team peaking at the right time and that kind of play won’t win 2 more games.
That exact kind of play won our last national title with a 3rd string QB

We played Penn State, scUM, and Wisconsin back to back to back to finish out the season. Give them a break, they are beat up. All I see is a team in desperate need of rest.

Fuck the CFP and fuck ESPN. And fuck the SEC too.

Questions I have for the committee:

If you reverse the order of OSU’s wins versus Wisconsin, does OSU get the #1 seed after beating them 38-7 in the title game? Are you looking at the whole resume of just the most recent game?

If Wisconsin had played an FCS team instead of OSU earlier in the year and UGA had played LSU instead of Georgia Tech, how would these teams have been ranked enterimg Conf Championship Weekend?

What would the scores have been if you took Taylor and Cephus off of the field for Wisconsin and put Swift and Cager back on the field for UGA?

It’s garbage. They look at final scores and records and nothing else.

Agree with everything up until the last.

If they looked at final score and record without bias, they would have no basis for choosing anyone but Ohio state to be #1.

They throw out weasel words like "improvement" when anyone can see that limiting a bad, banged up offense can make anyone look improved. Using that word is just a disingenuous way of saying that they focus more on recent results. When recent results don't explain their rankings, they use weasel words like "body of work"

Dinardo pointed out that all of the coaches on the committee were good old southern boys when he predicted LSU would be #1. I have no idea if he's right about that, but the prediction held up.

All of that said...Buckeyes took care of business and they're in. The rest is details.

You are absolutely right, of course. More specifically, I should have said “they look at the records and scores that support what they want and nothing else”.

Fuck them.
Well yeah, I get that sentiment, but I'm not the only person who looks at football scores and thinks in terms strength of conference. It looks like the folks who determine numbers 1 through 4 do the same thing. We can laugh at the folks who chant SEC, SEC, SEC. We can bitch that Clemson doesn't play anybody and nobody in the Big 8/10/12/10 plays defense, but until we get a commish who puts the interests of the Big Ten first and not that of the collective Chambers of Commerce of the South and California and the scheduling gods of SEC/ACC, we'll continue to be dogged by the perception the Bucks play in a weak conference in comparison to the SEC.

We were simply reminded that if the records are equal the advantage goes to the SEC team.

This is, IMO, the main takeaway from the final standings. OSU at #2 vs #1 is not a huge deal for this year since they're still in the playoffs (although their mathematical odds of winning it all would be increased if they started off playing Oklahoma). The bigger deal to me is that it's yet another data point showing the committee has been influenced by the SEC bias in the media, along with what that could mean in future seasons.

I still can't believe Gene Smith admitting he quit the committee last year due to the obvious SEC bias (UGA at #5 over OSU) didn't get more play in the non-ESPN media...

Well, as long as we're in the playoffs - which we are - I don't much care what people think about the Big Ten.

I remember last year, a buddy of mine moved to Georgia and was taking an acre and a half of shit about the weakness of the B1G. I say, "Are you a fan of Ohio State or the Big Ten?" He said "Ohio State" I said, "well, who gives a good goddamned then? Do you think I give a rats ass if Purdue wins its bowl game? Do you think I feel better about Ohio State if fuckin Michigan State beats Oregon? No. I literally couldn't give a single fuck. Maybe Auburn fan rooting for Bama or Georgia fan rooting for Florida ought to reconsider how important their team is to them and stop giving you shit about you being loyal to yours"

Like I said, I hear you, but then be ready to accept #2 this year and being left out in years when late games are lost to Michigan State, Iowa and Purdue while SEC or ND gets in

I am perfectly fine with OSU being number 2 this year. I personally disagree with the committee's ranking. And I have also disagreed with various rankings they've made in year's past. But.. so what?

I don't much worry about the shit I can't control... and... I'm certainly not going to worry about even more shit that I can't control expecting other B1G teams to do whatever you think they're supposed to do. Besides, no amount of B1G winning is going to change the ESPN narratives. The only thing that will is signing a big fat contract with them.

At the end of the day, if Wisconsin wins the Rose I don't care. If they lose.... I don't care. But, I'm not a Wisconsin fan, so.. why would I?
