Saturdays Star Performer

Maybe the Michigan game in 2004 was Troy Smith's coming-out party. But what about last year? I don't remember anyone who hadn't done much all year make a big impact or big play in last year's game. Unless maybe it was Andre Tyree. Was that his name? The lineman who lined up at tight end to give the Buckeyes 6 offensive linemen, instead of just 5?

Anyway, I'm going to guess that Antonio Smith will be on fire. He'll be everywhere Michigan doesn't expect him to be. He'll get 2 sacks, 2 more tackles for loss, an interception, and about 51 tackles. And, after Ohio State scores their last touchdown, Tressel will send Antonio Smith in the game to go for three.

I am a huge believer in running the football to set up the pass. I love the power I. I think that it is such a power trip (pride, etc) to line up in the I-formation or offset-I, etc. There is nothing better when you line up in the I-formation, and the defense knows that you are going to run off-tackle, and you still get 4-5 yards. This is what football is all about. I wish the impact player would be Pittman, however I don't think it will.

I wouldn't be surprised if we Pass the football to set up the run. As long as Tressel has been coaching, we have come out on offense and done something "different". (Last year we lined up Tyree, year before Smith ran a ton...etc). I wouldn't be surprised if we line up 5 wide-receivers. I don't see ANY team lining up with our depth at receiver. If we line up Ginn, Gonzo, Hartline, Robo, and Hall...WOW, that would be impressive. They would almost have to play a zone. I don't see ANY defense being able to cover all of those receivers for more then 5 seconds one-on-one. They would have to play zone. Even then, Smith is way too good to pick apart a zone. With all those Receivers' speed, there would be a ton of holes, that Smith would exploit. ScUM would have to put there best 2-3 DBs on Ginn, Gonzo, and either Hall or Robo. To get back on the subject, IF we came out doing this, I wouldn't be surprised if the impact player would be Hartline or Robo.

That's my 2 cents

Vern Gholston, all the talk before the game has been tsun front seven and Woodley. After the game Vern will be the Nat. Medias New darling. Think "lil Animal" against Texas. More than one sack and a forced fumble for Vern. Also a punt block for Roy or Grant. -ich is worried about Ted and the first punt will be blocked.

Unfortunately, I do think that we will have to keep Nicol in to block... Michigan's D-Line is too good to go 5 empty.

maybe it is my video game mentality, but with our speed at WR, i would think we would be able to line troy up in the shotgun and spread them out wide.

they could bring the blitz, but if troy would be able to hit hartline, teddy, small, gonzo or any of the others on quick slants..and with our speed that could be enough to keep them from blitzing

If scUM is constantly in their Dime defense, that leave only one linebacker. 5 O-lineman against 4 D-line and a linebacker....I think that I would take our chances by spreading them out. Even if nothing happens in 2-3 seconds, Smith can still run the ball.

Boy are we spoiled! We are going to miss Troy next year like no other Buckeye I can remember. Everyone is discounting the little things that happen in "The Game". It won't be big plays or even the biggest name player that makes the most difference this year. The stars will shine but the unsung heroes are the ones who will be the difference on the scoreboard. This week it will be AJ Trapasso. I'm not convinced that the field is going to be in perfect condition especially with more rain coming this week before the game. Field position will be at a premium and AJ is going to come up huge!

I'll just have to go a little outside of the realm of the question and say Jim Tressel. He will again be the Star of The Game. I don't know what he'll do, or when, but we will all see something and it will be the talk of the Game.

Go Bucks!

How much will Tress use Beanie against scUM?
Would you trust him to carry the ball 15 times against them right now?

Yeah. I would. If he has the type of game he is capable of, he may not need 15 carries to break the game wide open. With Pittman getting the bulk of the carries, Beanies style, especially against scUM, could be just what the Bucks need.
