San Francisco 49ers (official thread)

This is a championship-level defense. They have dynamic playmakers at all three levels. Bosa on the DL, Greenlaw/Warner at LB, and Hufanga is blossoming into one of those really elite safeties that truly impacts the game on multiple levels.

The offense, well. They were good today, but Carolina is a wet fart. Jimmy G has his limitations, but they were this close to winning a title with him 3 years ago and that offense didn't have a weapon like Deebo. The OL is my biggest concern. And injuries. Always with the injuries.

I always hated the "injury prone" tag for CMC.

He's 5'10, 200lbs and averaged 315 touches a season his first 3 years in Carolina. That works out to about 20 per game, every game.

Nick Chubb is 5'11 225lbs, is described as your typical 'workhorse' RB and averaged a shade under 16 touches per game, every game.

If the dude stays healthy, he's one of the best weapons in the NFL. But you can't give him that kind of volume either, especially considering how heavy they rode him at Stanford.
I was shocked he made it as far into the NFL career healthy as he did. Pretty sure at one point, during the 2019 season, Christian was on the field for something like 95% of the offensive snaps? That's unsustainable for any RB.

What's more shocking to me is that Kyle Shanahan, a coach who has never invested more than a 3rd round pick and has (to my knowledge) never paid a RB more than 3mil in a season (Mostert)
co-signed a trade for a RB currently set to cost north of $10mil next year.

My hope is that the fact that his volume should drop significantly in the Niners offense will keep him off the injury report. The Niners offense is now stacked with versatile weapons and CMC is perfect for Jimmy G as he will give him another check down/outlet target. The logistics of the deal aren't ideal, that's for sure. This is obviously Lynch and Shanny going "all in" on this season.

I agree completely about the all-in strategy.

And unlike Baker Mayfield, I genuinely believe Jimmy G can utilize CMC's receiving talents out of the backfield.

Should be fun to watch provided his health holds up. Speaking of, that defensive injury report though... Good God.

Jimmy has his flaws, but he's worlds better than Baker. Adding CMC to this arsenal will be a DC's nightmare. I'm interested to see what he draws up with Deebo & CMC on the field. That's, arguably, the two most versatile offensive weapons in the league.
Definitely pretty exciting to add a player of his caliber even with the obvious injury concern. Also pretty crazy that Shanahan has now committed 7 draft picks to the RB position in the past 18 months.
Not to mention what they dumped to get Trey Lance. This season better pay off because things are going to get very dicey in 2023 and beyond with so few draft pics and Nick Bosa needing to be paid.

McCaffrey runs, passes for and catches a TD in his first "full participant" game.
