Bell sharp at OSU camp
June, 10, 2012
By Brad Bournival | ESPN.com
Upon second glance, Vonn Bell (Rossville, Ga./Ridgeland) is as advertised.
Competing in Sunday?s Senior Advanced Camp at Ohio State, the 6-foot, 190-pound, four-star safety stood out in one-on-one drills.
The 2013 recruit is the No. 63 prospect in the ESPN 150 after a junior year that brought 119 tackles, five interceptions and five fumble recoveries, with three of those recoveries going for touchdowns.
Sunday, he picked off two passes and scored twice on the offensive side of the ball during the individual sessions in the afternoon.
But the day was more about putting everything in place when it comes to Ohio State.
?You just got a second look at everything,? Bell said. ?It was a better feeling being around these coaches and players again so you just get that home feeling. We got to see more things. We got to do more things while we were here. We?ve been up here since Friday.?

Vonn Bell enjoying 'crazy' recruiting time
A year ago at this time, Vonn Bell was just trying to fit in with his new Ridgeland High School football teammates. Now there are entire Internet message boards dedicated to him and where he might matriculate with his considerable talents.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound senior safety and receiver is ranked as high as the 19th best overall prospect in the country by 247Sports.com. He has more than 20 big-time scholarship offers -- big as in Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, Notre Dame and Ohio State.
His junior statistics were off-the-chart good: 180 total tackles, 119 solo tackles, five interceptions, three forced fumbles and three recoveries for touchdowns. He added 31 receptions for 487 yards and six touchdowns receiving and 280 yards and five scores rushing.
Earlier this month Bell attended Ohio State's camp and walked away with MVP honors. Urban Meyer's Buckeyes staff, according to recruiting services, made Bell their No. 1 camp priority and are hoping OSU makes his soon-to-be-pared list of possible schools.
"I'll be cutting my list to seven soon, but it's really wide open," said Bell, who has managed so far to keep his preferences secret. "It's a real tough cut with all these big-name places and coaches, so me and my family and the people who support me are going to sit down and talk about it."
If he hasn't made up his mind by then, Bell will do so at the Under Armour All-American game in January. Until then he plans to keep the Ridgeland highlight machine busy with what he hopes to be a memorable senior season. Everything switched in the last year.
ESPN 150 S Vonn Bell down to 7
Under Armour All-America safety Vonn Bell (Rossville, Ga./Ridgeland) has picked up close to 30 offers during the recruiting process, but as is always the case, there can be only one school on top in the end, so the 6-foot, 185-pound ESPN 150 prospect sat down with his family and coaches to try and narrow things down a bit over the summer. On Saturday, Ridgeland head coach Mark Mariakas announced a top seven.
"Vonn Bell made contact with the following schools, Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas, Vanderbilt and Clemson, and told them they were on his short list of schools that he will commit to," Mariakas said. "By Labor Day he will cut this list down to two schools and go from there with the process. This list is in no order."

2014 commitments are early. 2015 commitments are stupid at this point. The players need to grow, and then grow into their bodies. Can't happen after the freshman season.CoosMeister;2173386; said:As a proud Tennessee resident, I might add a little insight into this comment. UT is scared about what is happening at Vanderbilt right now. For the first time in either program's history, VU is putting pressure on in-state and winning recruits from UT. In fact, VU has picked up commitments from some of the top Tennessee players in 2014 and 2015 already. Many UT fans are starting to see a clear distinction between James Franklin at VU and Derek Dooley at UT and this is going to lead to some serious problems for Dooley if he has a bad year. The "trigger" for UT administrators is going to be much quicker than if they had the luxury to wait for Dooley to build his program because that luxury is going away very (very) quickly. The guys on the radio down here are all over Dooley.
If UT has a bad year, a new staff will be at UT next year. I think we all see what that might mean for Von Bell...
I'd still be more concerned about UGA than UT...
