S Malik Hartford (Official Thread)

THE HIT HEARD 'ROUND THE WORLD
West Chester Lakota West safety Malik Hartford, a four-star prospect committed to Ohio State, laid the wood Friday night in his team's win over Cincinnati St. Xavier.

Four flags quickly found their way onto the field and Hartford was called for targeting, giving St. X 15 yards and a chance for a tying 47-yard field goal as time expired, but the kick was no good.

Hartford, for his part, felt some remorse for the de-cleater:

Tackling perfectly the way he's been taught. Head across the bow leading in with the shoulder pad. Perfect tackle just hard af and that hurts feelings. I know the rule, hate it btw. If you've got all your pads and mouth piece in, you aren't defenseless. Stay home or put a skirt on and cheer for the guys who can take it.

Obviously I dont want people getting seriously injured, but it's football, it's supposed to hurt. Just sayin

Malik Hartford - SAF - Ohio State

Soon to be taking his talents to Columbus on Saturdays, Malik Hartford turned some heads with his combination of length and smooth athleticism during the team periods of Tuesday’s practice sessions. Measuring in at 6-foot ½ and 166-pounds, the Buckeyes signee will most definitely need to add some bulk to his frame once he arrives on campus in Columbus but it’s hard to not to get excited about what type of safety prospect Hartford can develop into over the next three to four years after seeing him live in San Antonio. A smooth mover with silky hips, Hartford’s man-to-man ability in addition to his range playing the deep part of the field gives the Buckeyes a nice developmental piece on the backend of their defense that should help remedy limiting explosive plays in the passing game.

SAFETY: MALIK HARTFORD
Hartford turned some heads in San Antonio while participating in All-American Bowl practices, and now the Lakota West product will be vying for a role as a free safety or strong safety in Jim Knowles’ defense. Which position Hartford sticks at is irrelevant to him.

“I take pride in every aspect of the game, so whatever will help my team win and help me get on the field, I'll definitely take advantage of,” Hartford said after his commitment to Ohio State in April.

Hartford is the second Lakota West player in as many cycles to sign with the Buckeyes, joining Jyaire Brown. Hartford will now hope he also gets to see the field in some capacity his freshman year, just as his high school teammate did for Ohio State in 2022.
