S Lathan Ransom (All B1G, All-American, National Champion, Carolina Panthers)

Finally had a completely open Saturday and decided to rewatch all of the playoff games. I realized Ransom had a great playoff performance (and season/career), but man he was flying around absolutely looking for blood, yikes! Not only that, but they were huge hits using form tackling.

Some NFL team is going to get an about to get a steal in the Draft. I would imagine his draft position is probably mid-late Day 2, but if he falls much further than the front end of Round 2 someone is going to get a hell of a lot of value. Really going to miss watching him here but definitely excited to follow his NFL career.

Ohio State S Lathan Ransom’s admission tells why he and Caleb Downs were an elite duo with the Buckeyes

Ohio State’s roster was loaded more than usual in 2024 due to the fact they were able to return a bunch of talent that could have decided to go to the NFL. Still, the biggest addition for the Buckeyes last offseason was via the transfer portal.

The Buckeyes landing S Caleb Downs after Nick Saban retired at Alabama was the perfect outcome for Ohio State. Downs was recruited hard by Ryan Day’s staff out of high school and the Buckeyes were able to land him the second go around.

Ohio State was able to return S Lathan Ransom for a fifth season and the two made up the best safety duo in college football this past season.

“That’s one of my closest friends. Somewhat that right when he came in we competed in everything we did,” Ransom told the media at the NFL Scouting Combine on Thursday. ”Whether it was watching film, getting extra work, doing extra DB drills. He’s a big playmaker and I’m excited to see him, the other safeties, and other DBs make plays this year.”

Downs put up a season of 82 tackles, and a pair of interceptions, and was an All-American in his first season with the Buckeyes. The star defender was really unleashed down the stretch run of the season and helped take the defense to a whole new level.

Ransom made 76 tackles, an interception, and three forced fumbles in his final season with Ohio State. Now, the talented safety should be an early Day 3 pick in April at least.

“I think that’s why we made a lot of plays, why me and Caleb were so successful because there was a lot on our plate,” Ransom explained. Coach G [Guerreri] and Coach Walton did everything they could to prepare us and allow us to go out there and play fast.”

Steal! We will never top having Downs and Ransom as our safeties. Together they absolutely dominated the playoffs and took the defense to such a high level.

Remember during the playoffs, this guy knocked out 2 running backs, and Arch Manning on legal hits. It was amazing to watch.
