S Kurt Coleman (All B1G, All-American)

Then why throw it out there as though he is not one?

Reggie Nelson was drafted 21st overall. I don't think it's a stretch to think Coleman could end up in that ballpark, even if it's 10 picks later.

Eric Weddle would be another at #37.
Please don't throw out what the general populace said about Troy as though it applies to me, particularly since you think that opinion was homeristic/foolish.
If Shazor can be an all-american, I don't see how you can dismiss Coleman, particularly given the big plays he's turned in so far.

Coleman 09 has outplayed Mays 08 imo, and he was an AA. He's in the ballpark of Jenkins 08.

He's played as well as Craig Steltz a few years back. Same with Leon Hall.

never said you personally said troy was a top 10, first round pick back then. but it seemed to be the general thought around here...

could be, time will tell.

Mays has 28 tackles and an interception returned for zero yards in four games with no other statistics listed.

Coleman has 43 tackles, two interceptions returned for 89 yards and a TD, 2 passes broken up, four passes defended (I think that is what BU and PD stand for) and three forced fumbles through four games.

Statistically it is pretty clear who has the better All-American resume up to this point in the season.

could be. though i think stats are often irrelevant, remember poz? and i think what is actually done on the field is actually irrelevant, see doug flutie. time will tell.

back to kurt and his great game against wisc, etc...

I just fail to understand how that's relevant to our discussion.

Do you think Coleman is about as good as Steltz 07, Hall 06, Shazor 04?

Does that soften your hard line stance about the divide between Coleman and those that win AA awards?

We'll leave Mays out of the question, in part because he shouldn't win the award this year.

eh, he made the play, boom didnt get much/anything after contact.
YouTube - Taylor Mays and "Boom" Herron Collide

Yeah, he made the play, but I wouldn't say he made the tackle. Boom raped Mays on that play plain and simple. Had Herron weighed 10 more pounds he could have possibly bounced that around after that collision and left Mays laying on his back.

Kurt is solid against the run, has improved his cover ability, fly's to the ball and is able to jump infront and take a ball from a reciever. After last saturday he has also shown that he knows how to move with it in his hands.

Not sure where he'll be drafted, but he's moving his way up the boards rather quickly I'd assume.

shouldnt wind doesnt mean you wont. you know that josh. keith byers should have won the heisman trophy, he didnt. heck most of the time the guy who wins it sholdnt have.

steltz the kid from lsu? well i mean that had something to do with it certainly.
hall? leon hall? was he an AA, i know he was a top 20 pick. i dont think he was an all american.
shazor, i honeslty cant recall much of the 2005 campaign, certainly not shazors body of work. then again who knows im not always the sharpest on every player from every season.

coleman isnt a first team all american. he isnt a first round draft pick.

I never said Coleman was THERE yet. If he keeps playing like he did on Saturday why can't he be a AA or a late first/early second round pick?
Agreed, from what I've read so far of this argument, I've been able to discern one and only one thing... it's completely absurd and pointless. The fact of the matter is is that Coleman is playing lights out right now and has better statistics than most other players at his position (not to mention Coleman missed an entire game to add to his already impressive statistics because of his suspension). Hell, from what I saw from the wisky game, Coleman has launched himself into consideration for the Thorpe Award. How awesome would it be for us to bring the award home in back to back years?

In the NFL, If Mays tried to do that to a back it would look like this....

Couple of aggressive hard-hitting safeties went early 2nd last year, Delmas from WMU and Chung from Oregon. Both were suspect in pass coverage. I see Coleman going around the same time unless he rips off a low 4.4 40, which will be hard on that new slow combine turf.
