FB: Coleman Staying At Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? All-Big Ten defensive back Kurt Coleman announced this morning that he has decided to stay at Ohio State for his senior year.

Glad to see him coming back. Great decision!! The 2009 tOSU defense may end up being the corner stone of the team next year with Kurt being a huge contributor and leader. Can't say I would've blamed him if he left but I'm certainly relieved he stayed. Kinda reminds me of a certain senior safety who wore #2 and decided to come back and win a NC. Well, not exactly, I think MD was projected 1st or 2nd round if he left early. But he did come back and win a NC!! So here's to getting another in 2009!:beer:

Very nice.

I'll take Kurt Coleman & Lawrence Wilson as my defensive Captains...

...and Brian Hartline (assuming he makes the return as well) and Jimmy Cordle as my Offensive Capts. (though with recent reports I would love to see Brewster running the ship, even as a true Soph.)

Great to have you in the Scarlet & Grey one more year, Kurt!

Yeah, I would think Kurt would be a lock to be a Captain.

Good decision!

Coleman has unfinished business in Columbus

If Ohio State had finished off the final 30 seconds of the Fiesta Bowl and knocked off Texas, Kurt Coleman might be preparing for the NFL draft right now.

Kurt Coleman expects to take on a larger leadership role this season.

The Buckeyes safety "tossed and turned" over his stay-or-go decision before opting to remain in Columbus for his senior season. Earning his degree this fall played an important role, but Coleman also didn't want to go out a loser.

"I really wanted to leave as a winner," he said. "Last season kind of left it a little open-ended. I haven't won a bowl game yet, and I feel like this team can really make a big impact in the national football scene. This year can be our year to win it all."

College football enthusiasts have heard that line before and might be hesitant to board the Buckeye Bandwagon in 2009. Not only has Ohio State dropped three consecutive BCS bowl games, but it loses a sizable senior class filled with All-Big Ten performers.

The Buckeyes will be much younger this fall, particularly on offense, but they might be more explosive and hungrier. Only the fifth-year seniors have experienced a postseason win, and not many of them occupy top spots on the spring depth chart.

"It's so much motivation," Coleman said. "I see it in the weight room, I see it in everybody's daily routine. I can see it in their eyes that they really want to get out there and get better every day. That burns in our mind."

-- Kurt Coleman returned to practice today after rolling an ankle very early in spring drills. He was visible, that's for sure -- he popped Jake Stoneburner with a vicious hit after a catch, and later, he was verbally directing the defense to get into position.
This guy is one of your 2009 captains, no doubt. Don't ask me who the others might be, there aren't too many obvious candidates beyond fellow safety Anderson Russell.
Good indoor action (Blogging the Buckeyes)
