S Kurt Coleman (All B1G, All-American)

The game is Saturday night at Centerville. Besides Coleman, the other player to watch is linebacker Tyler Replogle on Centerville's defense. #16 was voted GWOC Defensive Player of the Year as a junior which hasn't been done since A.J. Hawk did it as a junior. I think Belton is an overrated quarterback that threw 4 interceptions last time against Centerville. He had a nice tight spiral, but it didn't seem like he could put any zip on the ball. He is in my grade and I remember him tearing us up freshman year though, so maybe his 4 interceptions earlier this year was a fluke.

Just got back from the game. Great game it was a shootout and Centerville came out on top. Coleman is amazing. He had to have had 20 tackles or more tonight he was in on EVERY play. He is very good and I think he is best suited at safety with his tackling ability. He also was in very little on offense but scored on about a 60 or 70 yard TD catch on a simple hitch route. Belton looked very good and he is definetly a gamer. His pluses are he throws a ball with nice touch, has a strong arm, and is very accurate on short to medium range passes and not bad on longer passes. His downside is he isn't very mobile, makes some bad decisions under pressure, and can't take a hit very well. My take is he may be an OSU caliber QB but I would put Chris Smith ahead of him for sure. Belton would be perfect in a Northwestern-like offense. Replogle wasn't in on too many plays but it was because of Northmonts spread offense I believe. However he has great size and moves well. Also Chaminade Julian transfer Will Johnson (RB 6'0 205) was finally eligible and played well for the Elks offense. But on Coleman he is a definite stud and a top 100 player nationally in my books.

Thanks for sharing. Coleman definately sounds like a stud who has the versatility to play either corner or safety.

Kurt graduates in January and will be working out at tOSU soon after in preparation for spring practice. He talks to Coach Beckman every week. Kurt ended up with 114 tackles and 3 INTs on the season while also returning 3 kickoffs or punts for TDs.

I think there is a good chance for him to get a little time in the Defensive backfield next year. I think he will be competeing with JamO as the backup safety position and also with JamO, Amos, and Patterson for the nickel back. If he does not get on the field there I think he will be a heckuva special teams player.

Don't forget Brandon Mitchell in there for the nickel...

Got a chance to talk to Kurt tonite on the phone. A friend from works' daughter knows him pretty well. They had dinner tonite, I was invited so I could meet Kurt, but I have a horrible sinus infection and couldn't go. I was pretty bummed until he called and put Kurt on the phone. Sounded like a really pleasant young man. It sounds like my buddy may bring him down to work with him soon so I can get a few pics and an autograph! When I do, I will post them on here.
