Five questions with Ohio State safety Donte Whitner from the NFL combine:

Q .
What has your combine been like? A .
It’s a long process, a long, tiring process.

My plane left Columbus at 6 o’clock (Saturday morning). I didn’t get here until about 10, 10:30 a.m. I checked in and had to go over to the hospital for about 3½ hours to have X-rays. I got back and went to dinner. Then I had a meeting for an hour and a half with the (union).

Then I met with four teams. I went to bed at 11:30 p.m. and my wake-up call was at 5:30 (yesterday) morning.

Q . Where do you think you’ll go in the draft?

A . I heard anything from late first to early second. When I turned my petition in to the NFL, they told me second round. I feel with a good combine and good tests I can move up.
Q . Do you compare yourself with former Buckeyes safety Michael Doss?

A . No, I don’t compare myself to Doss. The guy I compare myself to the most is Bob Sanders of Indianapolis (Doss’s teammate with the Colts). Bob Sanders really likes to play along the line of scrimmage and the backfield and fly around. When you turn on my film, you’ll find a lot of the same things.
Q . What do you think of Mike Kudla tying the combine record with 45 reps in the 225-pound bench press?

A . Forty-five reps is a lot of reps. I’m going to try to do anything from 18 to 23.

Q . Could you break Kudla’s record if you had three chances at it?

A . If I had three chances at it and a day of rest.

Sweetest part is he pushed past 2 exponents of "Florida Speed" to place himself at the top of the board. (Dee Webb - Florida - and Pat Watkins - Free Shoes - are .01 seconds slower).

Awesome. Aside form Hawk, Whitner was my favorite Buckeye last season. I knew tha coming out early wouldn't hurt him, and predicting it from the beginning. I'm willing to bet my entire small stash of vCash that he becomes a first round pick with this.

I have said this before and will say it again, while Doss was better at Ohio State, Whitner will become the better pro. I also said Whitner will test great and make the scouts rewatch his film and his stock will go up.

While I don't see him going in the first round (because safeties just don't go high enough), he is now a solid upper 2nd round choice.

ESPN Sportsnation's Trent Modglin just said during his NFL Draft chat that the Chargers are looking to take Whitner with the 19th pick..

What is the record for 1st rounders from one school in the same draft? Hawk, Holmes, Carpenter, Youboty, Mangold, and Whitner could all be taken in the first round!
