S Donte Whitner (Official Thread)

It was a solid hit, and it puts Mucho Stinkos lights out. I don't wish harm on Johnson, but if you're gonna talk shit guys are gonna gun for you.

The real question was, after his head bounced off the turf on a sideline catch, why was he still in.. he's had head issues in the past, he was woozy after that first hit...he shouldn't have been on the field.

Whitner though, has become a real force on the Buffalo defense.....the unquestioned leader, making smart physical plays and bringing the emotion to the D....

i love having Buckeyes on my pro team.

Buckeye Brothers
by Bill Pucko

Ohio State is a favorite training ground for NFL players. On Sunday.. former Buckeye teammates meet when Buffalo plays at Miami.

Dolphins wide receiver Ted Ginn and Bills safety Donte Whitner will oppose each other and could collide a time or two.

"I told him to make sure he doesn't have a good game this week," said Whitner. "I still talk to him. I tell him I will hit him. Just because we're friends doesn't mean I won't hit him. I'm still going to hit him because he has great straight line speed. You slip up one bit and he can hurt you. That's what we have to watch out with him."

COMMENTARY: Give thanks for Whitner, Lewis

TIM SCHMITT: ?God Bless this town?

DONTE WHITNER: Nobody means more to the Bills than the former first-rounder from Ohio State. He?s tough, smart and never quits.

Whitner?s still fighting, even when the Bills were getting walloped by the Pats on Sunday, he was knocking guys out of bounds with the same verve he?d display in a playoff game.

It?s hard to say that it bothers him when the Bills lose as much as that buddy of yours from Newfane with the shrine in his basement, but he gets it. Losing is contagious. The Bills have had the bug for ages.

And Whitner just wants to get well again.

High school reunion

Whitner and Ginn had a reunion Sunday when Whitner intercepted a pass and was tackled by Ginn at the 11-yard line, setting up Buffalo?s fourth touchdown. They were teammates at Glenville High School in Cleveland, where Ted Ginn Sr. was the head coach, before both evolved into first-round picks from Ohio State.

?He came to me and said, ?Man, I couldn?t let you score,? ? Whitner said with a smile. ?It was good to see him. It?s a hard thing. He?s like a brother to me. You don?t want to see him do bad or see him go through what he?s going through. At the same time, you want to win.?

Cleveland ties help players relate to furor Bills' Evans, Whitner have family, friends with mixed emotions

BEREA: When he was growing up, Bedford High School graduate Lee Evans remembers going to games at Cleveland Stadium with his dad and meeting players afterward.
Lake Catholic product Joe Jurevicius watched the Browns' 1986 playoff games on a black-and-white television in his garage.
Glenville's Donte Whitner was parked in front of the tube, too, cheering when the Browns were doing well and griping when they struggled.
The Cleveland natives appreciate the magnitude of the game as the Browns (8-5) host the Buffalo Bills (7-6) at 1 p.m. Sunday in a showdown with AFC wild-card implications. But friends and families of three Northeast Ohioans on the Bills' roster find themselves conflicted.

Don't be hating NFL Buckeyes

BEREA Maybe it?s an Ohio State-haters thing.

The big school along the Olentangy was supposed to get wiped out by Miami in the 2002 national title game.

It?s a perceived underdog now in the Jan. 7 championship clash against LSU.

This year, the Dolphins were thought to have water on the brain when they spent a No. 9 overall draft pick on Ohio State?s Ted Ginn Jr.

Last year, Mel Kiper?s hair practically stood on end at the shock Buckeye safety Donte Whitner was drafted at No. 8 overall by the Bills.

Nobody reacted more strongly to the ESPN draft-day railing against Buffalo?s supposed stupidity than Whitner himself.

?At the time,? Whitner admitted Wednesday, ?I was a little bitter.?

Dolphins receiver Ted Ginn Jr., right, tackles Donte Whitner after the Bills safety made an interception. So far, Whitner is proving himself worthy of the No. 8 overall pick in 2006.

BEREA, Ohio -- Buffalo Bills safety Donte Whitner is torn between his two favorite teams this week. The Cleveland native grew up a die-hard Browns fan, but he will play a key role Sunday in the Bills' game at the Browns.
Both teams are vying for the second AFC wild-card spot. Cleveland (8-5) has a one-game lead over Buffalo (7-6) with three games remaining.
