If Donte goes pro, it's because he's ready to move on. Once your mind has been satisfied that you are no longer challenged like you once were, it can be better to go to the next level to improve. I'm sure a lot of folks on this board have experienced the same in their field of work.
Even if he isn't highly drafted, after a good season, he can restructure he contract like he was a first rounder to begin with.
I'm really just trying to come up with possible explanations, because I am a huge Donte Whitner fan, and I am going to miss that guy's steady play. He was the only person who NEVER missed tackles in addition to Hawk. Once Whitner's hand was on the player, he was going down.
