Wow a higher ranked SEC team commits a blatant penalty and doesn't get called for it. I'm shocked.
No one roots for and protects their own better than them:

Last year, Nebraska loses a toughie to Northwestern, Michigan St gets stuffed by Nebraska and we lose to Purdue.

ESPN: Big Ten sucks, no good teams. Parity implies no depth and no elite teams, conference has no talent, blah blah blah.

This year. #9 SC almost loses to Vanderbilt, on a bs no call PI.

ESPN: SEC!!1!!!!1 Look at that conference depth. SEC SPEEDDDdDDdDDDD. Whole conference is [censored]ing stacked. Every team has enough talent to compete. Can't take any weeks off.

You do have a point. Just before the SC QB took up a knee to kill the clock one of the announcers asked if this was a top ten team. The other announcer said "well, not tonight. However, tonight they were handicapped because their quarterback isn't a 100 percent and were not sure if their runningback is a 100 percent."

WTF.

My wife in response to Mark May, "Vanderbilt, a hostile environment? Have you ever been there, dude?" Followed by laughter. And she has been there.

I figured that, since everybody knows she's "been around".

Still no explanation as to why their TE whose helmet flew off when he was hit by the DB (and I still think that personal foul call on the Vandy safety resulted from a bullshit rule) was not forced to sit out the next play. Did the referees forget the new rule? Or is a helmet forced off during a penalty not counted?

The latter is correct.

Losing a helmet as a result of a penalty doesn't count and the player may remain in for the next play.

Of note, I believe it was the Minnesota-UNLV game where the Rebels snuck a player back onto the field after losing his helmet the previous play. The horror!

WTF.

Next week Vandy will edge it's way into the Top 25 on the merit of it's strong performance against a juggernaut SEC team.
