S Anderson Russell (official thread)

This may be a stupid question (possibly 2) but...

1) What exactly happened to the knee to make it season long?

And

2) If he passed up Patterson in the depth chart, why is JamO getting the nod over him? Did he slip that far?

1) ACL, MCL, PCL, or any combination of the three... considering the fact that he was standing around with a wrap on it, i think it was a ligament... at any rate, after surgery, he's gonna miss some serious time...

2) who knows.

I thought I saw some good things out of him (JamO), and I also thought he had some late reactions to some plays. But heck, that's what I saw out of Little Animal the first couple of games this year and the same could be said of AJ Hawk for the Packers.

He needs to learn the D and react instead of think what he needs to do while a play developes. If he can make the jump to 'reaction mode' and let his speed and athleticism take over, he'll be fine (with the opportunity to be great). I hope to look back on this situation and be able to say, 'that was just the jump start JamO needed to propel himself into Buckeye Stardom.'

Then when Anderson comes back healthy and hungry we'll have Jamario, Nick P. & Russell with some solid starting experience, and some talented Redshirts waiting in the wings for depth.

I feel really bad for Anderson. He's gotta be a frustrated young man. It was great to see him coming into his own along with the rest of our young D. But he's got years ahead of him to make his mark. I hope he has a quick recovery and can get back to 100% for next season.

Wow, I was hoping maybe he just sprained some ligaments, and might miss a few weeks. This is a tough break for him. JamO and Nick will need to step up. I totally agree that JamO is thinking too much right now, and needs to just start reacting. I hope he'll be much better after another game or two.

Not sure of the medical redshirt rules... Assuming Russell is indeed out for the year (and I have no reason to believe otherwise, except that he wasn't carted off the field and never seen again (He was seen standing on the sideline, and the reporter made mention of the fact that he was not happy that he was being held out the rest of the game - as if Russell was of the mind that he could go...) does he qualify for a medical redshirt and thus not burn this year?
