Rumored list of 103 players that tested for Steroids from 2003

A bunch of OTC's are on the banned substance list. It's all BS. HGH can't even be detected. If you really want them all on the same playing field, just let them all take what they want to take and call it a day.

Except that many of the banned substances are extremely harmful (see Lyle Alzado), and illegal unless prescribed for a legit medical treatment. I suppose giving the okay for OTCs like ephedrine could be conscionable, but that would put players who are opposed to performance enhancers at a disadvantage. The rules are clear, players who take the risk to break them should bear the consequences.

Well, it's baseball. They are all cheaters--especially the pitchers. But I suppose that's a story for another day. In terms of the misnomer that steroids are harmful, may I suggest watching "Bigger, Stronger, Faster"? Very balanced documentary on the effects of steroids or lack thereof.

If you're suggesting that steroids are safe, then you're wrong. If you're saying that we, as a society, may tend to blow its negative effects out of proportion, then you're probably right.

But it is not safe. And as pointed just a few posts before, the players that don't want to take the illegal risk are at a disadvantage.

True, steroids are not necessarily harmful if used properly. It's very unlikely, however, that a perfectly healthy person taking them to gain an advantage over other athletes is going to adhere to safe usage. One guy's going to up his dosage to be the biggest/strongest, then the next guy tries for one better, and it snowballs. I realize your original post was not totally serious, or if it was, I'm not going to try and change your mind. Really, I don't care too much about the steroid thing, I just don't want to see the guys who play by the rules get pushed out of the game. I will look for that doc at the library, I'm sure it's informative.

Yes, the media blows it ridiculously out of proportion, and all the sheep (us) buy in. And like I said before, when it comes to baseball, they are all "cheaters" in some way, shape, or form. I just don't agree with singling out one form of cheating over another--see Gaylord Perry. The hypocracy in which we shun baseball players for "roiding" while we give guys defensive player of the year awards in the NFL for "roiding" bothers the hell out of me as well. Also, since they can't even test for HGH, we don't know who the heck is really cheating or not. It's McCarthyism. Glad I got that off my chest. :)

Thought it was funny that after the Manny and Ortiz reports came out Nomar came out and said that a lot of the guys said that they didn't want to take the test, and just said to say they were positive because they were in favor of drug testing.

Well looking back Nomar is the first name on the list. Wonder if he was one of those guys :)

Excuses that are more believable than that:

  • The check is in the mail
  • The dog ate it
  • Everybody else was doing it
  • He couldn't handle the Barwis!!!!1!!11!1one!1!!! regimen
  • It's not you it's me
  • I didn't know what was in the supplement I was taking
  • I have a friend who happens to be black

I'm not saying it's legit, but I don't buy that it's because there aren't enough scrubs on the list. There are plenty of them up and down that list.

More interesting to me is the number of recognizable players whose performance went down the crapper once PEDs became an issue and testing began.
