Rugby (6N, Rugby Championship, IRB 7s, etc.)

Wales sacked up and took the rematch in Cardiff. All the number crunchers now say they'll enter the World Cup holding their first ever #1 ranking.

As I see it, there are 4 teams that can win this.

Wales
England
New Zealand
South Africa

and another four that can stir shit up, make a deep run and even have an outside shot at the whole thing.

Ireland
Aussie
Scotland
Georgia (scoff you will, but I think they're the team to outperform their ranking and seeding)

NZ looked very impressive against Australia, 36-0. They seemed to be a bit pissed off about the arse-kicking they got at home last week :slappy:

Nothing to see in Argentina - South Africa. Both sides held out their 1s. Shouldn't have been a test. SA wins anyway.

While I still include Ireland in my second group of teams that can do some damage next month (and it certainly doesn't hurt that they don't have a Tier 1 team in their pool), I think we can safely say that people read way too much into their beating the All Blacks last year. Unimpressive in the Six Nations, and England just threw down a right proper rogering on them yesterday.

This really isn't a typical world-beating All Blacks squad this time out. I'm sticking with my earlier prediction that it's a four horse race, and I don't see much separation between them.

Do the London bookies have any odds out yet?

I found this, but it can't be current: Ireland & Aussie better than Wales and SA? That's pure fucking lunacy.

From a website I use for entertainment. NZ favorites. South Africa at 4.2/1 just ahead of England. Then the rest.

That's more like it; though Ireland shouldn't be anywhere near that point, and Wales should be grouped with SA and England. Oh well, let them overlook us. Seems like only yesterday they had Wales finishing 4th in the Six Nations.

Well, it was a nice two weeks at the top. Time for NZ to take back their usual spot. Not too worried about the loss to the Micks though. Gatland played a team of reserves that still managed to almost come back against Ireland's A team, so I don't know what it really says about either team. Real games start in twenty days.
