The point was the Gator D outplayed the PSU D in a battle of struggling offenses.

But since you brought up McGroin...

So, 5 INT's is all on McGroin and no credit goes to the Gator D? How about converting 4-18 3rd downs?
I totally agree that McGroin should take some of the blame, as most starting QB's who play like complete dog [Mark May] should, but the Gator offense was out gained 350 to 279 and only held the ball for 27:11. That tells me the Gator D made more plays and capitalized on turnovers when they were actually on the field longer than the PSU D.

Let's recap...PSU outgains UF, PSU wins T.O.P.

UF wins turnover margain and their D makes the winning play on a potential game winning drive.

Gator D made the key plays, Kitty D did not.

McGroin could easily have made first downs with his legs on at least two of the picks and if he does that the outcome may be much different. I am not saying the Gator D didn't play well, but McGroin was just God awful and made bad decisions as opposed to being forced into the turnover.

B10 teams that run some form of the spread offense:

Illinois
Purdue
Indiana
Penn St
Northwestern
tsun
Minnesota - even though they were more successful lining up and just pounding it...

OK, I am glad to stand corrected.

The problem I see with those teams however, is that they are generally shitty at running it.

Or it may be because the Big 10's ability to draw means that inviting them to tourist towns brings more dollars for the local economy.
Well, whatever. The fact remains that Ohio State has more BCS bowl appearances (nine) than any other team, and the Big Ten has more BCS bowl appearances (23) than any other conference. We must be doing something right

One thing I have never liked about the bowls is the long layoff. I'm not saying that's why Wisconsin lost, but I feel like the game would have been different had it been played in the begining of December.

One of the reasons I'd like to see a playoff is to get rid of the long layoff.

If you are going to have such a long layoff, then I think you need to look at the bowls as a fun trip for the players and fans and an exhabition as much as a meaningful game.

I'm not saying it's not fair, because both teams have the layoff...it's just not sports...no season has a month off in it in any other team sport.

This game made me really feel this way because I kept looking at Wisconsin and saying, "This looks like a team that is thinking too much, and had too long to prepare." Had they just had one week, and played their style football, I feel like they would have played better. I think most teams would play better without the layoff.

To me, both of these teams looked better in November then they did here in January. Reminds me of last years Texas vs. Alabama game. Both teams looks rusty, and weren't playing at the same level that they were when the season ended.

If fans only had a week or two to make their plans to go to a bowl game, instead of a whole month, would a lot of people who would have gone, not go anymore? I think that's the big money concern. Longer layoff means more fans will show up.

Maybe it's that it wasn't pac10/big 10...maybe it's just that there are too many bowl games...maybe it's that the bowl season goes until jan 10th...but this January 1st was the least fun I've had watching football in memory. I just feel like the bowl system is dying, if not dead. This game capped it off for me.

I had this same feeling. I think it's just the fact that college football has finally turned that corner where it's no longer mostly about football and a lot about the bottom line. ESPN's hostile takeover this year didn't help that matter much and I fear that their ownership of the NCAA Tournament in the near future is going to make it even worse. I enjoy college sports because they're about the players and the game rather than the owners and the sponsors. Unfortunately that's going by the wayside and I'm very displeased.

Ask Baylor how Illinois is at running the football. They probably still have cleats marks on their jerseys from getting the ball pounded on them.

I thought the same when Wiscy tried to pass for the 2 point conversion instead of running Clay to tie the game. Bret was caught overthinking the play and trying to run the unexpected play. Shoot, run Clay for 2 and tie the game. Then pound the ball in OT for the win. Thinking too much cost them a win and a preseason drop in the '11 polls. IMHO

That is not entirely correct, as Bret only does what the card says.
