I will be happy as long as Artest is off the Pacers. They aren't going to get enough value out of him to make up for what they lose so the Cavs might have a chance to beat them next time they play. Artest single handedly shut down Lebron in the first meeting this year. Send Artest to a team where he is going to be the only good player and it won't matter if he can shut down Lebron since the rest of the Cavs can score as well. I don't think the Pacers will send him to any Eastern team that has a chance to beat them or any of the good Western teams for that matter. It does sound like he is definitely going to be moved so it will be fun to watch this soap opera play out.

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indiana Pacers have agreed to trade Ron Artest to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Peja Stojakovic pending league approval, ESPN's Jim Gray has confirmed Tuesday.


The deal closes a chapter in the Pacers' latest drama involving the volatile star forward.

Kings owners Gavin and Joe Maloof on ESPNEWS would not comment directly on ESPN's report that the Kings pending league approval will trade Peja Stojakovic to the Pacers for Ron Artest.


Artest was a key component to a team that was expected to challenge for the Eastern Conference crown. He led the league in steals and was the Pacers' second-leading scorer at 19.4 points a game before being deactivated after publicly requesting a trade in early December.


In five years with the Pacers, Artest was an All-Star once and was the NBA's defensive player of the year in 2003-04.


Pacers GM Larry Bird said the Pacers had been interested in Corey Maggette of the Los Angeles Clippers, but there was "no question" that Maggette's sprained left foot affected the process. Maggette averaged 21.7 points in 13 games before getting injured in early December.



The Pacers have lost four of their last five games, including Monday to the Atlanta Hawks, who have the NBA's worst record.

With all the shooters they have the Pacers are going to be harder to defend, but other teams are going to have a much easier time scoring points with Peja rather than Artest. At least for the Pacers they will be able to get by the whole Artest thing now and start playing again. The difference in the Pacers D was night and day when the Cavs played them with Artest and then without him.

A league source has confirmed to SI.com that a deal that would have sent the Indiana Pacers' controversial small forward Ron Artest to the Sacramento Kings for three-time All-Star Peja Stojakovic has been called off -- for now.

The deal, which may have included a draft pick, was awaiting league approval when it fell through.

Artest has spent the last month on the inactive list after he told the Indianapolis Star in mid-December that he wanted to be traded and that he didn't enjoy playing for Pacers coach Rick Carlisle. Indiana's front office quickly said they would try to accommodate Artest's request.

Long-considered one of the NBA's best sharp-shooters, Stojakovic has suffered through his worst season since 2000, averaging 16.5 points per game while shooting 40 percent from the floor. Stojakovic's struggles mirrors that of the Kings, who are in the basement of the Pacific Division with a 17-23 record.

Stojakovic's agent, David Bauman, could not confirm the report but said before the deal fell through that he thought it would have been a good move for his client. "I think it's going to be a great move for Peja. He gets a new start, a chance to play for a great team for a coach who's been successful in the playoffs.

"Things have been languishing in Sacramento. He's excited about getting a new start."

After Tuesday's developments, though, when and where that new start may be is anyone's
