What parity?
UNC, Duke, Kentucky, Arizona, Kansas are generally getting top 5 classes every year.
It's not a coincidence.
The system as it is currently constructed is advantageous to everybody but the athlete. It's ludicrous. So instead of "above the table" transparency, we'll settle for money laundering, AAU coach/runner brokered deals to schools, and the current "black market" that creates the situation Louisville finds itself in because they were the unlucky school to come up on a wire-tap.
I pointed it out before, but there was a specific reason Archie Miller was targeted by OSU boosters, and why Archie wanted the OSU job so bad. It's because Sean Miller at Arizona is so well connected at Nike, and it's become a spot kids are pushed too. Archie viewed the OSU job, through partnership with Nike, as a sleeping giant. And by partnership with Nike, I mean Nike doing similar things with basketball players going to Kentucky, UNC, Kansas, and Duke. Ohio State has the largest alumni base in the country.......you know who hated watching Ohio State basketball plummet more than anybody? Nike.
And let's be honest....you have 2 major sports (NCAA Basketball and Football) that create the necessary money to fund non-revenue generating sports. Of those two sports, you'd certainly see players paid to sign with specific schools (that already happens through back channels) but where you'd see real wealth being developed is by guys who get on campus and make a name for themselves. So locally, kids could do autograph signings, local dealership commercials, NIKE/Adidas advertising, etc.
Right now in college football we have the same 4-5 teams entering the season on top based on talent/recruiting (Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Florida State). Allowing local businesses or athletic brands to pay kids isn't something that alters that top echelon of schools IMO. Very quickly those investing money are going to realize the bust rate of top prospects, so for every $200,000 you invest in a Cam Newton, you're wasting $200,000 on a Seantrel Henderson. And it's already happening anyways (Ole Miss anyone?) so just bring it above board.......
It should be a fair market. And if a local business wants the endorsement of a Maya Moore or Candice Parker more power to them. It absolves the NCAA of Title IX because the free market is dictating endorsement money, and allows the kids to make what market price is on them. It's so simple it drives me crazy.....
