no mention was made in any reports by anyone about the hooking, the ref and replay offical even thanked him for trying to move him.

nash played at 6-4 212lbs when he last played in columbus

nash and lemieux are different style players.

columbus does have some more young talent in zherdev they are considered the second best young duo next to heatley and illya k.

from all accounts and sources nash was considered the #3 player in the world going into the tournament, it seems he has become recognized as the consensus #1 player in the world.

While I agree the comparisons should not be made b/w Lemieux and Nash, for arguements sake, Lemieux has 150 assists in his first 2 seasons. 7 is right, the league is much different now, but for a guy to be considered the best player in the world yet only be 263rd in assists in the league is a joke.

He's not event the best winger in the league. He may be the best young power forward in the league, but if, when the league comes back, they do away with the trap, clutching and grabbing, and reduce the size of goalie pads, that will help the skill players, not the power forwards that can't pass.

thenumber7: "Sloopy, you are kind of comparing apples to oranges here, and your facts aren't completely correct."

(We can be civil here, on the baseball board, however, all bets are off!)

I'm not disagreeing with anything you said. I thought the '89 Penguins were worse, but I guess I was mistaken.

My only point in bringing up Mario is that a great player/passer will rack up assists on a bad team regardless. The fact that Nash has more goals than assists only states that he's a better scorer than playmaker. It shouldn't matter that he's got nobody around him.

And even if the Penguins were in 2nd that year, it was all Mario. They didn't have the personnel anywhere near the Stanley Cup teams of a few years later. I don't even think they had a young Jagr on that team.

Well, Nash might be considered the best goal-scorer in the world. How bout that? 50+ goals as a 19 year old on a horrible team in the current NHL is quite impressive, don't you think?

Pretty impressive if he DID indeed have 50+ goals, but he only had 41. :wink2:

16 assists just throws up a HUGE scarlet flag for me. I just prefer my superstars to be able to shoot , pass and play defense. Nothing against Nash, because at 19 he still has time to get there.

I'm selling though on the point that he's the best player in the world.

And yes, #7, I sure miss hockey , especially with this being slow season for the Buckeyes.

My bad. I misread earlier when you stated he had 58 Goals. I thought you meant last season. I haven't followed the NHL closely the last 10 years, so I'll have to take your word for it.

"Nash scored two more world class, highlight reel goals, his fifth and sixth of the tournament, and set up Joe Thornton for another, to grab a big game by the throat and defeat the USA 3-1 here last night."

sooo...against the best talent in the world and playing against the best talent in the world he has a direct hand in all 3 goals....two scored and one assist....and you have a "huge red flag" about him?

i'm confused.....

It's just a huge red flag when he is referred to as the "Best Player in The World". He's a great player, no doubt. But to me, the 'BPiTW' is a complete, all around player, which , at this point, Nash is not.

I think (which is a huge problem w/ the NHL right now), that the teams are too watered down for anyone to make an assessment on who is the best player in the world right now.

None of these guys cracks 50 goals or 100 points anymore, none of them play on a halfway decent team because the talent is too thin, and some of them (Jagr, Federov, Tchachuk, etc.) have gotten big contracts & mailed in the rest of their careers.

Is Nash better than Jerome Iginla? Martin St. Louis? Joe Sakic? Who knows? Who can say? I can make as good a case for one guy as you can make for another, so its tough to say.

For me, I'll still take Super Mario over any of these guys.

jimotis4heisman: "but in the world championship you can make the case...id take mario in his prime also."

Nash isn't even in the same galaxy as Lemieux in his prime. I'm saying that I'd still take Super Mario right now (he is still active).

A younger Lemieux was big, impossible to get off the puck, a great skater, had great handle, the best on the power play, lethal in the open ice, a passer second only to Gretzky, and the best anyone's ever seen at scoring when he is open. If it was just Mario and the goalie, it was a goal. 100%. There was no chance of a save being made. It was like a lay-up in basketball.

And this coming from a long-time Ranger fan who hates Lemieux from the ol' Patrick Division days. He was the best I've ever seen.

I'm with you there. His reach is unbelievable. Unlike the Great One, he's spent most of his career playing a physical game. He's also a great defensive player and most importantly, made his teammates great players. He made alot of money for Kevin Stevens and Jaromir Jarg. There must be something in the water at the Garden that makes players average. Their the Yankees of Hockey without the winning.
