Rich Rodriguez (official thread of last laughs)

But wait, there's more!

Six days later, on Monday, Dec. 17, Michigan held a press conference to announce Rodriguez as the Wolverines' new football coach. Later that day, Rodriguez flew back to Morgantown, W.Va., to close out his business there. Before he returned a few days later, Carr suddenly called a team meeting. According to five players there, Carr told them he knew some had come to Ann Arbor to play for him, and some to play for Michigan. "But," he said, "you're here to play for Michigan."
"Of course," one player said, "every coach has to say that."
But not every departing coach has to say what Carr said next. He told them he wanted them all to be happy, and he recognized not everyone would want to go through the coaching change to come. So, he said, if any of them wanted to transfer, he would sign the form, since it requires the signature of the player's current coach.

If Les wouldn't have banged someone's wife years back, he would have been your next coach.

[rumor-font]I heard that this is what led to Gary Moeller's blow up at Excaliber; that the someone Miles 'banged' was Moeller's wife and that that is why Carr was adamantly against Miles getting the post. [/rumor-font]

Somehow I don't think that will get into the book/excerpts; but when you think about the behavior of Michigan men and women in The Big Chill it all makes sense.

As the World Turns/Guiding Light redeaux:

Initially, Michigan's compliance director, Judy Van Horn, interviewed the coaches, staffers and players herself ? in a clear conflict of interest, since the quality of her performance was one of the central questions to be answered. Yet she did not stop the practice until Rodriguez's lawyer ? not the university's or the NCAA's ? insisted that the U-M and NCAA lawyers should conduct the interviews.
When the investigators asked Van Horn directly if she had told Rodriguez of the missing forms for Countable Athletically Related Activities (CARA), which the NCAA had started investigating, she replied, "I wish I had." If she had, it's doubtful that the former director of football operations, Brad Labadie, would have been allowed to fail to submit them for more than a year, that a university audit would have been deemed necessary, and that Detroit Free Press reporters would have learned about the situation, prompting their FOIA request ? and sparking the bigger story, and the NCAA investigation that followed.

I've read about half of the book thus far. I hope Gordon Gee and Gene Smith do the same before November. Jesus, what a calamity. As bad as things have been handled here thus far, it could get far worse...
I hope they read the whole goddamned book!

I've only been reading the reviews as I have limited resources right now, and reached the same conclusion. Hope our coaches can pull it together when the time comes.

The ineptitude of that search was pretty well known, but when you actually read the details, it's truly astonishing. Their friggin' AD (God bless that magnificent sumbitch) went sailboatin' and was incommunicado during a key weekend of their search. His excuse was that he "had a new phone and didn't know how to use it yet". DERP...

The book pretty much buries wvu and everyone associated with them as petulant children and paints dickrod in the kindest light possible...through the first several chapters anyway...

Martin sat next to me at a College Softball game last year, I had my daughter with me, it was hard not to say what a cluster #$% he was as AD. Michigan thinks he did such a great job they named a section of the stadium after him.
