A lot of Buckeye fans (even Taos!) nailed this one right from the start:

RR is a snake.... I find this hire to be highly suspect by the Michigan people. It should be comical to see this transformation unfold.

Am I the only one who sees parallels to the Callahan hiring at Nebraska?

gimmick offense + sieve like defense & soft players + traditional football power = potential disaster

It just feels like RR is one of the few guys who could actually set TSUN back even farther rather than moving them ahead.

I'm looking forward to seeing how RR handles Mallet. It should be comical to say the least.

I want to see how the 3-3-5 defense works in the Big 10. Scum couldn't have picked a coach that clashes more with their current system and the way the Big 10 plays football. He also puckers up in rivalry games. Could we really ask for anything more?

I can't imagine RR running his offense next year with the current personnel.

Is he a guy that's locked into his system or adjusts his system to his personnel like Tressel?

Anxious to see his gameplanning until he gets the kind of players he wants on offense.

I can't imagine diehard Michigan fans being too happy with this hire, I on the other hand, am ecstatic. The guy tightened up like a drum in the biggest game of the season.

I say he's gone in three years.

Is there a coach out there who is more of an antithesis of a "Michigan coach" than Rodriguez?

Rodriguez comes in and tries to implement his gimicky system. Michigan gets rolled for a couple of years. Rodriguez gets fired. In comes Les Miles.

RR's built WVU on being able to admit "questionable" recruits with some sketchy backgrounds.

That stuff won't fly in Ann Arbor.

What makes it sweeter is that Michigan fans will be choking on their words in less than a year. They're happy about this hire?

Unbelievable. The chokejob in the BBrawl was embarrassing: misuse of one of the best backs in the country and letting McCoy run silly on that soft defense is ridiculous.

Personally, I think Martin did a horrific job with this search and it has nothing to do with it being a skunkbear search.

If scUM had hired Kelly from UC, I believe that you would have seen many here that would have stated, on this public board, that that was the best hire. Granted, we will never know if that were to happen but having been here for a few years, there are those here that will give credit where credit is due.

Would the hire of Kelly caused us to "shit our pants"? Short answer is no. This has more to do with our confidence in JT than this being a Buckeye board. I think the hire of Kelly would cause more concern than this hire, because I think there are those who believe that Kelly is a better coach than Rich "All I know is the spread" Rod.

Good luck with this new coach. Seeing his reactions towards the end of the WVU-Pitt game would cause me to shit my pants if I were a scUM fan.

The only name that could have made me happier was DeBord.

I am estatic over this one. As I said in the other thread, scUM just hired their John L Smith. The next 3-5 years are going to be fun.

RR may not fit with the Michigan culture, either.
This is a huge gamble by Michigan.

Not gambling means hiring Mike Debord. I'll take the gamble.

Thank god they finally fired him. The UM Program and the OSU-UM rivalry needs this team to rebound and get back to it's glory days. I just hope they aren't dumb and go hire another crap coach.

I have recurring picture come into my head of Rich Rod carrying a box of his stuff out of the football facility, gray raincloud over his head and a thought bubble, ("This is all Pryors fault").... Not that Pryor would have fixed the D, but that was his crown jewel target when he first got there and it was the beginning of a lot of "Dadgumit's" over scUM's last three years.

edit: and I also keep laughing about how he can't go back to where he came from, it is dangerous in them there hills where he used to call home.

Somewhat makes me wonder if he really missed not having Casteel there in AA.

Then again if Casteel was there, perhaps he'd also miss having appropriate defensive talent - the other underlying flaw in RR's plan for TSUN domination.
