Rich Rodriguez (official thread of last laughs)

BB, what's the over and under for minutes/days/hours until RR gets the shove out the door?

I personally think that a) Harbaugh isn't a choice. b) politically it would be death to buy out RR and then drop the kind of dough it's going to take to get a big name HC in this economy. I think they're stuck for 2 - 3 more years.

Now, take this same team and put Woolfolk back on it and they might have won 1 or 2 more games. If -- IF -- he could land a couple of decent corners and a DL or five he could have enough to come into The Game with 8 or 9 wins. He doesn't have to play Wisconsin -- there's some irony for you. I remember when it was the Badgers feeling relieved at not being on their schedule -- he won 7 games with half a team. Few people here gave him that kind of year back in August.
I agree that he won 7 games with half a team. The problem is why did he have half a team and what is he doing about rectifying the problem? While obviously most of the problem on the defensive side of the ball is LLLLLLLoyds fault, and most of the rest is Ty Willinghams, some still falls at rrs' feet. With Woolfolk they would have won 1-2 more games, really, I don't see it. He also does not seem to be putting the effort in to defensive recruiting that he does on offense. He pushes his defensive scheme on his D-coordinators, without being serious about getting the players to play it, as well as not seeing that it might not work in the B10, like it did in the Big Least.

I hope he gets a lifetime contract. Until he realizes that you need to play defense in order to win at the highest level, he will be lucky to win 9 games a year in the B10. His vaunted offense put up 7 points yesterday, and were held way below their "average" numbers against any other team that had a pulse defensively. I also don't think his teams played in any really inclement weather, where his spread slows significantly. He also was very lucky in that hairlaces was not seriously injured at any point this year. He missed parts of games here and there, but comparing his season to most of Pat Whites, and you see that he stayed relatively healthy, even though his coach was trying to get him killed.

Yes, the rr led scUMmers beat UConn (wow, I didn't realize that the Big Least was that bad, automatic qualifier, pathetic) and No D and the fighting Zookers, but lost to every other decent team on their schedule. Here's hoping that we can have this same conversation about rr after another Buckeye beatdown of next year.

There are a few interesting factors. I don't have inside info into TSUN's program, but they must be thinking about these things:

1. Can they ignore Harbaugh's comments about TSUN's academics a couple of years back? I think they could get by that.

2. Would Harbaugh come back to TSUN, or is he close to getting the 49ers or another NFL head gig? They can unofficially have somebody contact his agent to get a feel for this.

3. Would Harbaugh leave Stanford before coaching them in a BCS Bowl, which is the biggest thing they've had in football in a long time?

4. Do they need to hire a coach by mid-December in order to do somewhat better regarding this year's recruiting class?

5. Can they fire RichRod and not pay him the $4 million buyout because TSUN got hit with major violations on his watch, even though RichRid was only hit with a minor 'failed to properly oversee the program', rather than the original charge of failing 'to promote an atmosphere of compliance'? Or can that amount probably be negotiated?

6. Is losing the last 2 games of the guy's third year in town by a combined 50 points enough to convince Brandon that it's never going to get godd enough under RichRod, and if not, is it better to bite the bullet now, knowing that it will take a new coach a couple years to get his players and system into place.

7. Do they need to open the spot up fairly soon, so as to not miss out on somebody they might want taking another job, since the coaching carousel for Miami, Colorado and Minnesota could grab a guy they might want, if Harbaugh isn't an option. I don't think Les Miles will get offered the TSUN job.

It's just a guess, but I think Brandon will can him somtime this week, regardless of whether or not they think Harbaugh wil be available.

This would be my guess. The Niners did well before when they hired a Stanford head coach.

harbaugh strikes me as the kind of guy who would go to the NFL if given the chance, and frankly michigan wants him a lot more than he wants them. with that said, i think RR has probably earned another year as HC for the wolverines; the UM ADs statement about evaluating the coaching situation after the bowl game makes that pretty much a lock, as no way do they fire a dude that late in the season.

i do think that if RR doesn't get to at least 9 wins and can't field at least a semi-competent offense next year he should be out. 4 years at michigan should be plenty long enough to get them back to where they were before he was hired, i don't care how bare the cupboard was when he got there.

Buckeyes could regret latest humiliation of Michigan
By Gregg Doyel
CBSSports.com National Columnist
Nov. 27, 2010
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State beat Michigan in a way that could come back to haunt the Buckeyes. Not this year, of course. In the present tense, nothing bad could possibly come of Ohio State's 37-7 blowout on Saturday, a game that clinched for the Buckeyes a share of their sixth consecutive Big Ten title and strengthened their hopes of getting invited to a BCS game.
But for the future? Yeah, for the future, this game was problematic for Ohio State. Because this game could be -- and definitely should be -- the final humiliation that costs Rich Rodriguez his job as coach of Michigan.

While Jim Tressel walks off with another win over Michigan, Rich Rodriguez falls to 0-3 vs. Ohio State.
(US Presswire)

Rodriguez has been great for the school, and I don't mean for Michigan. I mean for Ohio State. And OSU fans know it. The Ohio Stadium crowd of 105,491 included more than a few sweethearts sitting behind the Michigan sideline who chanted: "We love you Rich, we love you Rich." For Ohio State, Rodriguez has been the gift that gives the whole year 'round. If he's not getting caught breaking NCAA rules against practice-time limits, Rodriguez is losing to every good team in the Big Ten -- and to lots of mediocre ones. And when he plays Ohio State, he's getting drilled. Rodriguez is 0-3 against Ohio State, and his teams have been outscored 100-24 in those three games.
After this one, Rodriguez was testy when asked about his prospects of returning next season. I started the questioning by asking him, "Do you know you'll be back next year, or do you hope you'll be back next year?"

Michigan was out of its league Saturday, but that's familiar territory for a program that, under Rodriguez, has gone an astonishing 1-13 against the top five programs in the Big Ten: Ohio State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Iowa and Penn State. Not that Michigan has been all that good against the rest of the Big Ten, going 5-5 vs. the murder's row of Indiana, Northwestern, Minnesota, Purdue and Illinois.

that article is brutal but its the kind of national nose rubbed in it stuff we don't want.

I think it was on ESPN this morning and his press release, well the part I caught he said "what do you want me to do go sing Kumbaya with the Buckeye fans" or something very close to that!

I think he was actually discreetly asking for approval to go do that very thing

Been awhile since he's been a part of a celebration after a big game..probably looked like a lot of fun for him. Especially since he played such a big part in it.
