Rich Rodriguez (official thread of last laughs)

What?

For me, there were a couple times when I was nervous of the score getting closer; but there was never an instance when I thought the Buckeyes would lose the game. We owned them on the ground, the turnover battle, and our special teams performed magnificently. The overall yardage was close, but that's not indicative of any particular "outplaying".

+1

Unless they outgained us in points, they didn't outplay us.

"How much does a man got to get humbled?" Rodriguez said after Saturday's 21-10 loss to No. 10 Ohio State. "Got humbled last year. Been humbled before and will be humbled again. In this profession, there's enough humility to go around for everybody.

"I'm getting tired of being humbled."

Hey, give him some credit.

At least he didn't say "humblefied" or "humblated" or "humblecated".

Being in AA for a couple of years has really allowed him to sophisticasize hisself.

RichRod: "I know some folks try to stir up negativity, but I think our fans have been terrific. Our fans are the best."

Both of them.

John Beilein will help advise Mary Sue Coleman on AD

Basketball coach is part of committee, but Rodriguez is not

The search for a new athletic director at the University of Michigan began officially Monday, and president Mary Sue Coleman selected men's basketball coach John Beilein to sit on a panel to advise her on the selection. She did not select football coach Rich Rodriguez.
"There were a number of great people that could have been included, but president Coleman wanted to keep the group small by design," said Kelly Cunningham, a spokeswoman for the university. "The choices she made give her the breadth of knowledge she was looking for to advise her on this search."

The search to replace Bill Martin, who's retiring next September, occurs at a difficult juncture for the university. Both the school and the NCAA are investigating the football program amid allegations by unnamed players that the team exceeded restrictions on practice and workout time, which the NCAA enforces to assure that the athletes have time to be students. The football team at Michigan has the most victories in the history of the collegiate sport, and has never been cited by the NCAA for major violations.
Meanwhile, it lost to Ohio State Saturday for the sixth consecutive time, and posted its second consecutive losing season for the first time since 1962.
The team also generates far and away the most revenue of any sport on campus, and helps finance the rest of the program of intercollegiate athletics at Michigan.
"The search will remain open until an announcement of a selected candidate," the university said in a statement. "President Coleman has stressed that she will make a thoughtful and deliberate choice."

Yeah, the "support" up there is something else. The fucking guy is the head of their flagship athletic program and is essentially a pariah. This is on it's way to being one of the most disastrous hires in CFB history. It might make the Gerry Faust error look prudent when all is said and done...

No exaggeration, that's a great comparison.

Imagine how different Lou's story might have been at ND if he inherited a roster full of slot dots and no defenders instead of guys like Tim Brown.

The question, it seems to me, is what are you going to find out there that's going to be better than sticking with Dick Wad?

...

I think it's a pretty grim picture. If you're a Michigan mover and shaker you had to be thinking it would take a minimum of three years for Dick Wad to turn out "his" team and you had to realize that even with Long, Henne, Breaston and Hart you managed to lose to Appy State. Could you really go before the public, in the midst of 15% unemployment, and sell them on a buy out and then a new record salary to draw a big name coach to the school? And frankly, where do you look?

Intersting points, Cinci, but I think they're sticking w/ RRod for at least one more season.

If they do have to undertake another coach search in a year or two, I think they're going to do more than look at the 'big name' guys, even the up and coming FBS coaches. I'm frankly surprised that they didn't find a solid lower division coach that was a 'M*chigan Man' through and through and go with him. I think Geiger did a brilliant job of hiring Tressel and I'm surprised more schools looking for a new head coach don't scour lower division schools for their next coach...

I agree that RR will get one more year at least.
The biggest arguement against that is the new incoming AD. will he be happy with RR or want his own man.
In that senario then RR is gone. It would be better to get the new AD's input. And besides what's a year's worth of recruiting anyway, I mean they will still have RR's recruits right?

You have to remember that the basketball coach isn't busy right now, and RR is getting ready for a bowl game.

Not to go to far OT, but true story In terms of how much things have changed (and I may be recalling the particulars incorrectly) ...

Fred Taylor was Assistant basketball coach under Floyd Stahl in 1958. Taylor got his first head coaching experience when he replaced Stahl for a period of time while Stahl was asked to go to California and manage arrangements for the football team's Rose Bowl appearance.
