Rich Rodriguez (official thread of last laughs)

When DickRod came, he didn't bring Pat White and Steve Slaton. Oops.

Nor did Ohio State and Penn State decide to leave and go to a different conference ala Miami and VaTech.

Main problem I have with Michigan fans is this idea of growing pains. If your program was REALLY in that dire of straights to where instalilng a coach with a new offensive and defensive philosophy guarantees a losing season and a start from scratch mentality, why the hell do you hire that coach in the first place? If there aren't the players for RRods system, and so far he hasn't even proven that he can recruit with the big boys, why wouldn't you go after a pro style coach?

Did they really hedge all their bets on the idea that RRod was a great coach. That's just undeniably dumb. More realistic idea: embarrassed at the Les Miles rejection, they go after the next "big name" coach. Result is that now Michigan has gone 8-13 in two seasons, with no development, even less scrapes on the roster, and coming up to the end of the second season of the new regime.

Maybe the ideology should change now. How about praising Carr for the job he did and missing being respectable in the Big Ten as oppossed to blaming someone who brought you your first national championship in decades in favor of defending a coach who has made you a laughing stock in a mediocre conference?

People sure do get jaded when they are not looked upon well.

Correction RR is doing the worst coaching job in UM history. If Purdue beats them they probably miss a bowl game 2 straigth season averaging 4 wins a year...next year I don't see how they get better. I hope they give him a lifetime deal...this guy is clueless.

They offered Ferentz who declined.
They offered Schiano who almost took the job, but woke up and changed his mind.
Miles was never offered, despite many in AA wanting him.
Then they realized how easy it was to steal WVU's bball coach, so they tried to repeat that process.

Thing is they seem to think they were the best program in the country and magically dropped off recently or something. Ain't so, and hasn't been for a while. Carr had a good record, but in the 13 years he coached, he lost at least 3 games in 10 of those. By contrast, with Bo it was 7 times in 21 years, most of those towards the end after his glory run of the 70's. If he didn't beat John Cooper like he stole something, the Carr era would be looked upon even less fondly than it is now. Not only is it unrealistic expectations of where they should be, but also about where they've been recently, methinks.

The way I see it that the guys who wanted RR wanted the change of playing style. While the fans put all their hopes into him and no way wanted anything as bad as what they have now. And now some are losing confidence in him.
The problem in getting his game up and running even next year is just about the time frame that everyone else will be keyed in to stopping it dead in it's tracks.

Ok everyone laugh now .

How about Coach Rod throwing Lloyd under the bus today. A reporter asked if he expected the team to be further along after 21 games into his tenure his response.... Not after I got here! WOW.
can't imagine why Carr won't give the guy his ringing endorsement.

Sadly, they'll get rid of him eventually. We can only hope they bring in Miles to replace him

Just for the record, the closest I can find to an "official" thread for Lloyd Carr was 42 pages long.

We HAVE to keep this guy around.

Unless you consider incessant whining to be interesting, Carr was more or less boring as fuck. On top of all of that, he beat us all the time, then he didn't beat us at all. I'm not surprised there's no monster thread about Carr. This guy, on the other hand, well...never a dull moment.

And as far as him throwing Carr under the bus, well, remembering how acrimonious his departure from "Blacksburg West Virginia" was, I'm not surprised by that either.
