Rich Rodriguez (official thread of last laughs)

Bill Stewart's got a great reputation, because he is who he is. He's a down-to-earth, good person, loves the game.

The people who wonder on how he'll be compared with Rich are nuts. This guy's probably better than Rodriguez. I'm worried about him. We beat Rodriguez. We haven't gotten this guy. This guy worries me. I wish Rich would have stayed. But he didn't, so we'll have to go play Michigan now.

I just drove home from work here in Detroit and RR was interviewed by Mitch Albom on WJR. Mostly a bunch of coach speak....no biggie. But toward the end of the interview Albom asked RR if he had learned all the words to the fight songs now that he was getting fully entrenched. Of course RR says "definitely....I"ve always loved Hail to the Victors".

Then Albom says "OK, coach, I'm going to put you on the spot....sing Hail to the Victors". RR responded by singing "Hail to the Victors Valiant".....Albom says "that's it?"

RR went on and on about how he didn't want to offend UM Alums with his bad voice...but Albom sort of wouldn't let it go....telling him just to say the words instead of singing them

....I got the distinct impression Albom deliberately put him on the spot and didn't let him off the hook until it was clear that RR didn't know the words.

RR sounded so unprepared and unaware of the spotlight he is now under.

I will keep on pounding this drum.

I believe RR will win at UM. When he does most UM fans will forget all the crap that has come before. But there is a subset of fans who understand what UM football is really about and they understand that they have already lost something.

Coop was the same for me. Not an RR by any stretch. But he didn't get what OSU was all about. It wasn't just about beating UM. It was not understanding the significance of the game. It was the hot tub adds and the 0.0 GPAs. He sold out to get the kids he wanted and he will never be a coach I can fully embrace. But at least he held a Senior Tackle and on his worst day he had more integrity than RR on his best.

RR is going to do the worst thing he can possibly do for UM in the long term. He is going to win football games.

Martinsburg Journal-News: WVU expecting $2.5 million check

Alea jacta est (almost)...

WVU expecting $2.5 million check

School still awaiting legal bills from dispute with ex-football coach

By MICKEY FURFARI/For The Journal
POSTED: July 30, 2008

MORGANTOWN - West Virginia University expects to be $2.5 million richer by Thursday night.

That amount of money is coming from the University of Michigan as the largest payment toward settlement of the $4 million buyout in the last contract of former head football coach Rich Rodriguez.

A lawsuit against Rodriguez by WVU was settled out of court in mediation on July 9. He is to pay the remaining $1.5 million in three installments, the first of which is due in January 2009.

The university also expects to soon receive a listing of expenses incurred by its legal team involving two firms, WVU general counsel Alex Macia said on Tuesday.

Well... not for RR, they're not.

EDIT: Speaking of which... "Jimmy Crum", "Herb Tarlek", and "Leisure Suit" should be added to the tags list.

Leisure Suit: Done

Jimmy Crum: Senile ol' coot or not, he's a Columbus sports icon that doesnt' deserve the comparison

Herb Tarlek: RichRod is quickly becoming his own type, rather than a model of someone else; even if that someone else is fictional.

EDIT: Someone else added the JC/HT tags. I guess I'll leave them. But I did throw in the "double-wide" tag. I bet that before the buy-out he had his eye on a triple-wide.
