Rich Rodriguez (official thread of last laughs)

Re: Rich Rodriguez described his last seven months as having had "a little bit of drama." You don't say. "If I paid a whole lot of attention to a lot of the stuff that was written, it probably would have been a little bit tougher," the embattled new Michigan coach said yesterday at the Big Ten preseason meetings. "But after a while, it was like, 'Just stand in line and throw some darts our way.' "

OK, I'd be happy to:

Got some darts for ya' there, buddy...

Dick Rod is brilliant.

Step one: piss off your fans by forcing your players to bail out of a charity golf event

Step two: Use an NCAA violating "mandatory workout" to justify the decision

Step three: Probation? Profit?

Have we ever seen any lack of attention to detail like this from JT? Ever?

At some point even the most hydrated of the kool aid drinkers have to begin to wonder what kind of man they have in charge.

Golfers were required to pay $250 per person to play in Wednesday's event. Participants also receive a morning brunch prior to the 11 a.m. shotgun start. An autograph session is to precede a dinner at 5:30 p.m.

Preston said he understands the change might upset some participants, and said he plans to talk with those people.

"We're hoping sponsors recognize this is for youth recreation, but if someone feels like they didn't get their full value, we're going to sit down with them and work with them until they walk away satisfied," Preston said.

If you had paid $250 to attend a golf outing expecting an OSU player to be in your foursome and no OSU players even attended the event, just how much talking would you need? I understand that there will be MSU players in attendance, but my experience with folks from the state up North is that those are rarely considered equivalent.

If nothing else Dantonio has to be getting a boner out of this one. He should pony up the other players and just feast on the PR benefits.

Well, I guess RR has decided that winning at football is more important than giving back to the community. This is never what I thought Michigan football would be about or want to have anything to do with. I realize that there's big money in college football, but it's not like RR came in to a program that was in shambles where kids were in trouble and you were having tons of NCAA problems, he came in to a school with recruiting power and a community that loves those kids.

Aaah well, if we know one thing about RR, he worships the almighty dollar.

You all need to understand, I am trying to build moral here. If my boys go and lose at golf how is that going to help their self esteem? It's called tactics, I know what I am doing, besides, if they paid me to let them go, maybe I would have considered it, hell, if they tossed in a couple million I would have gone and Rita would have played too, and that's better than anything else in this state.

This is too much to be believed....but it's actually true. My neighbors here in Detroit who are huge UM fans and alumni as well are even starting to question how can a guy throw away so much of the good will a new coach normally has?

The sports talk shows in Detroit are starting to pick this up now and are discussing it as a trend rather than an isolated incident. I suspect UM will be hiring a PR agency soon to help him with this sort of stuff.

Dantonio has to be loving this. It would be really funny if Dantonio called up his mentor Tressel and asked him to send up a few players to fill the void.

...every month that goes by up here I see more and more Ohio State stuff. And it's not just the OSU alums, but young kids not connected with OSU are now jumping on board.
