Reverend Dabo Swinney (HC Clemson Tigers - GSCS), random mid-century cars, and steroids

I hope his fall from grace starts this season and it includes losses to South Carolina and every shit ACC team on their schedule.

I hope he falls off too, but I don't want an awakened Miami replacing them as the ACC power. Idk what'd be more annoying that bandwagon fan bases like Miami, UT, UT lite and USC being relevant again

Miami is annoying, but if we're talking full on old school thug Miami, I think they're good for the sport. I'll take that any day over the fake piety of the Apostle Dabo and his band of snake handling redneck fans.

College football is changing. For better or worse, Dabo Swinney is not

Dabo Swinney insists he doesn't care about correcting the record, but if he's being asked, then yes, the narratives he's heard all offseason are -- to use the most colorful phrasing he's apt to provide -- bull crap.

After nearly a decade of unparalleled stability on his coaching staff, Clemson waved goodbye to four assistants this offseason, including both coordinators. There was a time when Swinney was praised as a coach who knew how to surround himself with the best people, but when he replaced Tony Elliott (now head coach at Virginia) and Brent Venables (now head coach at Oklahoma) with two internal candidates, that narrative shifted into something more akin to "Swinney is afraid of outside ideas."

Bull crap.

There was the time, in 2019, when he offhandedly suggested that, should college football shift toward a professional model, perhaps he'd just quit and head to the NFL. That comment has become shorthand for every out-of-touch coach unwilling to let players profit off their ability, despite Swinney's repeated insistence he simply didn't want the college game to lose sight of its educational mission.

In other words, the narrative is bull crap.

Swinney hates the transfer portal.

Swinney cashes $10 million checks while opposing players getting paid.

Swinney would rather lose doing things his way than win by adapting to the modern amenities of the game.

Swinney is selfish, stubborn, hypocritical.

It's all bull crap, he says, devoid of context and nuance and intent. And yet, travel outside Upstate South Carolina, and the same coach who, just a few years ago, was a fan favorite -- the goofy, fun-loving, BYOG-ing alternative to Nick Saban's joyless process -- is far more likely to be cast as the villain.

"People already have their stories written," Swinney said. "People hear what they want to hear and they can't wait to get some kind of big click. Nobody cared what I said 13 years ago, but now I guess there's an opportunity to get some kind of drama. But I've never changed."

Perhaps that's the problem. Swinney remains rooted in the merits of a system that allowed a poor kid from Pelham, Alabama, to earn a scholarship with the Crimson Tide, to coach for Gene Stallings, to become a head coach without serving as a coordinator, to thumb his nose at every pundit who promised Swinney would fail, only to turn "little old Clemson" into one of the most dominant forces in the sport.

People love an underdog story, and Swinney still wants to cast himself in that role. But he's not an underdog anymore. He's at the mountaintop. Or, at least, he was.

Clemson Tigers head football coach Dabo Swinney agrees to new 10-year, $115 million contract

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney agreed to a new 10-year, $115 million contract Thursday, the largest college football coaching contract by total compensation.

The new, enhanced contract runs through the 2031 football season and averages $11.5 million over 10 years. In 2022, Swinney is set to earn $10.5 million, just behind Alabama coach Nick Saban, who recently got a raise and extension that will pay him $10.7 million this season.

Over the length of his contract, which runs through 2030, Saban will make an average of $11.7 million per year. In July, Georgia coach Kirby Smart signed a 10-year, $112.5 million contract that averages $11.2 million per year.
.
.
.
According to the term sheet, if Swinney leaves to become Alabama head coach in 2022, he would owe a $9 million buyout; that number is $6 million in 2022 if he leaves for another college team. He would owe nothing if he leaves for an NFL head-coaching job. The buyout number decreases every year of the deal.

If Clemson fires Swinney without cause, it would owe him $64 million in 2022 and 2023; $60 million in 2024 and 2025 and $57 million in 2026. The final years would pay him the remaining compensation left on the deal.

If he is fired for cause, no buyout would be paid.

Wasn't he supposed to quit when players started getting paid?

Dabo Swinney's Comment About Steph Curry Going Viral

Clemson eked out a win against ACC rival Syracuse today but only after pulling star quarterback DJ Uiagalelei from the game. After the game, head coach Dabo Swinney invoked Steph Curry with an interesting comparison.

Speaking to an ESPN reporter after the 27-21 win over the Orange, Swinney defended Uiagalelei for having a bad game by stating that even the best players can have a bad game. To give an example, he said that the four-time NBA champion "might go 2 of 25" shooting.

"Well sometimes, you know, Steph Curry goes 2-for-25. Your best player can sometimes have a bad day..." Swinney said.

What's funny about this comment is that while Curry has had bad days, he's never had a game THAT bad. People have crunched the numbers and failed to find a single instance where Curry shot 8-percent in a game where he took at least 25 shots.

Fans are making sure to call Swinney out for that one too:

Dabo Swinney: Tennessee stunned by 'hot' South Carolina team as Gamecocks enter Clemson

"They're like, OK, we beat South Carolina and we beat Vandy, we're in the playoffs flipping burgers at the house, having a cold drink, watching championship weekend," Swinney said of Tennessee over the weekend, via Clemson247. "What are we? Are we No. 3 or No. 4? Are we in Arizona or are we in Atlanta? Next thing you know, you forget you've got to go play. Man, I think you've got to give all the credit to South Carolina.

"They just flat out kicked their butt. They showed up, executed incredibly well and (Spencer) Rattler, I mean, he was hot. Those receivers were hot, and that daggum No. 3 (Jaheim Bell) and how they were using him."
