I am no longer friends with this guy but at one time I used to go out to eat with him often (in a group setting). He would meet the server, hold up a twenty or ten(IN ONES) and say "this is your tip, every time you fuck up, I'm taking money AWAY." And he was picky so leaving a half filled water glass too long lost a dollar, not having one of his weird demands fulfilled correctly lost a dollar...etc. We took him out for his birthday and told the wait staff so they, of course, brought him a cake and started to sing...he threw the cake AT THE WAIT STAFF.

Not really about "behavior" but my stepdaughter used to be a waitress and I never knew that she had to split her tips with so many other people. Ever since then my wife and I have been always pretty generous when tipping the person who waits on us unless they are extremely which is hardly ever the case.

I briefly worked at a sports bar before spending time working at decent places for years. No place with a real chef should let anything happen to your food or anything else. But as for corporate or small pub type situations, I didn't see anything happen to food but I did see this:

The particular place at which I worked had a huge magnet across the center of one trash bin to collect errant silverware, etc. Well, one waitress (she was fired), when she got a bad table, would take the customer's credit card back by the bin and swipe it along this ultra-powerful magnet. She would then return to the table: "I'm so sorry, the card didn't go through." Repeat for a few cards.
