Religions of Abraham Backwards?

Well... it gets back to the point of this thread, doesn't it? If G-d is good.. if Jesus is good... why all the hate?
Besides the self-serving perversion of his religion to control and manipulate people for financial gain as well as power?
Good enough, why?
Have you considered converting strictly for the jokes?

Fair enough... I didn't mean to polarize our personal beliefs as the only two possibilities (and setting aside your appeals to other religions for the moment). I suppose when I said that, my assumption was "Suppose your concept of G-d as a judge is true, but you've been following the bad guy by mistake" when I asked if you were prepared to deal with the consequences.

But, the larger point maybe comes apparent when we consider your Christianity and Islam (as untasteful as that may be to you) as against my Philosophy and Buddhism (which both would provide a "second chance" for lack of a better term) a tendency is revealed... and it may be germane to the threads idea...

Both Christianity and Islam (and for our purposes, I'll just stop at those two which you identified in your post rather than try to compile some exhaustive list) we are given the following option: Believe or burn.

In both my philosophy and Buddhism (and again, limiting to just these two for our purposes here) the option is essentially: Live the best you can.

I find the former objectionable, and the latter comforting.
This is getting deep, and that's a good thing. It might take me a while to formulate a proper, thoughtful response.

This isn't a full response and I don't know yet even if I could articulate one.

1.)
I don't view comfort as reason for my relationship with my Maker, though I am comforted. In fact my comfort is irrelavent in terms of why I believe what I believe.

2.)
This isn't the first time the thought has been brought up by external or internal sources about what I believe being wrong. Every time I try to dwell on it the more I'm convinced Jesus is the only answer.

3.) I hate government computers and the exclusive use of IE. No spell check.

I find that comfort is usually found in the opposite behavior from what I am called to do by Christ, which gets back to why our fruit doesn't produce as regularly as it should.

Sure. Let's go with that. I mean, if Jesus was pissed about all this, maybe he'd do something about it, no?

Sorry.. I don't follow what you're talking about.

I would find it highly depressing and awful if my religion was such a chore that what comforts me is the opposite of what I'm supposed to do. Life isn't supposed to be hard.

I'd say he slayed them pretty regularly with his words and used their violent retaliation & attempted elimination to spearhead the strongest religion in history.

I don't want to tell the truth when I'm to blame when something goes wrong.
I don't want to forgive someone who has wronged me.
My member wants to do lots of women despite my wedding band.

I'm not talking about arduous chores which I hate, just things that my humanity doesn't want to do.

And yet, there are modern Jews, decedent of the hated Pharisee.... Epic fail?

My stomach wants to eat fatty, tasty foods.

Hmm... OK.. I guess I don't have those problems. I mean... it's not really that hard for me to be a "nice" guy... it comes pretty naturally to me.. I don't need the specter of eternal damnation hanging over me, is what I mean to say, to make me "behave" in a "right" way.

I own up to my mistakes
I forgive and forget
I have desired other women other than my wife, but never so seriously that I considered actually doing anything about it physically
I eat what I like to eat and don't see the problem with it religiously.

It's a bunch of satanic crap. You do not, repeat DO NOT, hear "turn me on, dead man" when you play Revolution 9 backwards. Even Wikipedia knows that these lyrics don't add up as some kind of coded message that Paul is dead:

"He didn't notice that the lights had changed" ("A Day in the Life"), he crashed into a lamp-post (a car crash sound is heard in "Revolution 9") and was pronounced dead on a "Wednesday morning at 5 o'clock as the day begins" ("She's Leaving Home"). News of the tragedy was withheld: "Wednesday morning papers didn't come" ("Lady Madonna") and a funeral was held (inferred from the Abbey Road album cover).

Well, Mister, we're just not gonna sit here and let you talk about a rock legend like that, nosireee!

Was it ever challenging? I'm not saying I don't do these things, just that it's a battle at times.
I have desired other women other than my wife, but never so seriously that I considered actually doing anything about it physically
Nor have I, but that desire is obviously in stark contrast to what I want & believe in.
I eat what I like to eat
congrats on your metabolism :p

Yeah I deleted that one since it obscured the set (the eating), I was merely using it as an example of something where you want to avoid being obese but also crave tasty stuff.

I suppose that sheds some more light on why Christians seem to use the word "Pharisee" as particularly adversarial.

We would be wise to remember the book of Acts, where we see that some of the Pharisees became disciples in the early ekklesia--most notably Paul.
