The only reason he hung around Milwaukee so long was because one of those sausages in the races they do was his.

I wouldn't be opposed to him leading off. Hear me out on this. While he's an automatic out, he's grounded into A LOT of double plays already, knocking out the OBP of Choo. Start with one out and Choo on for Votto as opposed to a DP and no on for Votto. Granted I'm a computer manager, but I think that would be best for right now. Or just put Cozart where he belongs (end of the lineup).

Don't think of it as leading off, think of it as him batting 10th.

If Dusty had the cognitive capacity to reach the conclusion you reached though, he'd have the smarts to just bat him 8th where be belongs and not have to rationalize it.

This is why the Ludwick injury sucks so bad. Jocketty had done a half-decent job of Dustyproofing the lineup as long as everybody was healthy. The Reds had found a combination of players that could bat in an order that made sense to normal people and idiots alike. With Ludwick gone though, we have Phillips batting 4th thanks to lineup construction wisdom pulled straight form the pages of Poor Richard's Almanac and in his place we have a fucking out machine erasing baserunners and eliminating opportunities for the team's best hitter.

In other words, Reds gonna Reds.
