Reds Tidbits (2012 Season)

Link

Stubbs will likely be back be back in the lineup today. He?ll also likely be in the second spot, i.e, Baker is not considering doing him down in the lineup.

?He took off this year when I put him second,? Baker said. ?You hope, during the course of the year, whoever I put in front of Joey (Votto) takes off. Like I keep saying it?s like putting your finger in the dike trying to re-arrange things.

?He?s one my one main speed threat. If you drop him down to seventh and he steals, they?ll walk the catcher to get to the pitcher.?
Dusty Baker ladies and gentlemen

Worthless goat[censored]ers. I'm going to move to Cincinnati and get a job in a concession stand at GABP just so that I can start spiking food with bath salts, all so (hopefully) someone will run into the dugout and eat the faces off of these soul-sucking giraffe abortions.

I love the smell of napalm in the morning.

Baker continues to amaze. If Stubbs gets on base in front of Votto and steals, then they'll just walk or pitch around Votto. Which would you prefer: having the bat taken out of the 8th hitters hands OR having the bat taken out of the best hitter in the NL's hands? Baker seems to prefer the latter.

Another golden nugget from that quote is that Baker implies that the 8th hitter is always a catcher. Great.

This is really way up there on my favorite post list, and I don't even have a favorite post list.

and it's not even that. He is acting like walking the 8th hitter to get to the pitcher is a good strategy. That only works early in the game and with 2 outs. If less that 2 outs, then the pitcher gets to bunt both into scoring position. With 2 outs you still flip the lineup. There is absolutely nothing wrong with him stealing while the 8 hitter is at bat. It's still a really good thing. He is dumb as a freaking rock.

Of course the real answer on what to do with Stubbs is send his ass to AAA until he gets his head out of his ass. Stubbs was not on the 40 man prior to 2009, so he still has 2 option years left. Time to use them.

Stubbs still has options? Hot damn!

The genius of Dusty Baker continues. 0-1 count to Stubbs and a pitcher who has control issues. Hit and run time! Get lucky that Stubbs somehow fouled it off. Yet Cozart wasn't about to let that stop him. Oh no! Got picked off first by the catcher, and then Stubbs strikes out for the second time in the game to extend his streak to 0 for 29. Mind you, this is against a pitcher who was not even in professional baseball last year because he, well, sucks big time.
