Reds Tidbits (2012 Season)

I knew tuning into this game would be a mistake. Phillips again making a huge base running mistake. Valdez took off too, but he did it because no one was anywhere near 3rd base and they would not have gotten him. Phillips on the other hand starts running to second once Valdez takes off. How stupid. 3-2 count and 2 outs, no need to get a good jump.

Now I didn't see the play...but when it's full count and 2 outs, you're supposed to run..there's no reason not to run, if it's a ball you're taking that base anyways, if it's a strike inning is over

just saw it...both left way to fuckin early

I think BP left when he saw Valdez go

Yep. Valdez left early because the 3rd baseman was playing essentially SS. You will notice Volquez looks to third to catch Valdez and no one is there. On the other hand, Phillips took off like a moron when he saw Valdez take off.

My point earlier was there is no reason to get a good jump (like say a hit and run), not that you shouldn't be running. I guess Valdez should of known Phillips would have no idea what he was doing and would take off the same time Valdez took off. These guys need to take into account most everyone on the team has no idea what they are doing.

I believe it's Jim Kelch on the radio. Anyway, I am listening to the radio while occasionally looking to the game. I don't think he has called a single pitch correctly. He keeps calling Volquez's curve a change up, and he said the ball Heisey hit was a fastball.

In the umps defense, that is another reason you don't go head first into the base. On top of being dangerous, the ump cannot tell when your hand hits first from the angle they take on that play. Still should have been safe, but the head first slide into first is just a bad play.
