Reds proving once again some of the best trades are the ones you never make. I can guarantee they tried to trade Votto and Cueto at some point but no one bit.

I'm hoping the Reds will look to invest in a bat before the deadline, but should they be targeting a high OBP guy for the top of the order, or a power bat to stick between Votto and Bruce? If the Indians fell back, would they consider moving Choo before his contract expires? Cincinnati could definitely benefit from a quality, lefty lead-off hitter.
David Schoenfield (3:21 PM)
OBP guy. Or they should just move Phillips up to the No. 1 spot and hit Bruce fourth. Breaking up the left-handers is overrated.

Give me one good non-Dusty related reason why Ryan Hanigan doesn't bat 2nd for the Reds.
David Schoenfield (3:27 PM)
Did I put that in the post. I was going to mention that: I'd go Phillips, Hanigan, Votto, Bruce, Frazier (at least the way he's hitting right now). And if Frazier loses playing time to Scott Rolen...

Doug (Cincy)
Breaking up left-handers is especially overrated when one of them is Joey Votto.....
David Schoenfield (3:32 PM)
Exactly. Plus, it's more important to get the lead early in the game than worry about who you MIGHT face late in the game. And it's not like there are a lot of good lefty relievers in the NL right now. The two best ones are on the Reds!
Dusty (Cincy)
Don't you know anything, Schoenfield? You can't bat Hanigan second- he's a catcher, and we can't have that slow catcher clogging up the bases by getting on base all the time! And we need someone to break up Votto and Bruce in case Billy Wagner comes out of retirement! Now move out of your mother's basement and get a real job, Mr. Fancy Stat Man!
