Reds Tidbits (2012 Season)

The instant reaction to Overbay becoming available by some on RZ is that he wouldn't be useful. Apparently upgrading the bench isn't worthwhile and the only trades that matter are for new starters.

Cairo has to go. It doesn't matter that he is nominally more versatile. There is no such thing as being versatile when you're so bad that your inclusion can't be justified for any of those positions. Get Overbay. Who cares if he only plays one position? He's good enough to do it in a pinch, he works as a left-handed pinch hitter, and if you're lucky enough to need a DH at the end of the season, he can do that too.

Hell, even Pierre would make sense by similar criteria. If you think of him as a Xavier Paul replacement rather than a Ludwick or Stubbs replacement, it becomes a no-brainer of a move. Unfortunately, we know that's not how Dusty would use him, and that's why it can't be allowed to happen.

372 pitches thrown between both staffs. 204 of those were strikes, 168 (over 45%) were called balls. 17 walks against 18 hits.

If Mez gets suspended, I hope Fairchild does too. That was attrocious.

I agree. This is becoming a disturbing trend. Is this supposed to be there to help "speed up" games? As a pitcher I'd much rather give up a walk on a borderline pitch than groove one and watch it fly into the river. Tough spot for pitchers. Volquez was winning and he was visibly getting bent.

Astros lead the Brewers 2-0 after 6 innings. It may come as a surprise, but the Brewers ended up winning with a final score of 8-7 in a battle of pens. :slappy:

Cordero served up 4 hits, a walk, and 2 runs in one inning in a mere 19 pitches to go down as the loser; his ERA is now 18.00.

El Duque served up 3 hits, 2 walks, and allowed 3 earned in 1.1 IP of work to earn the win.

Axford actually worked 2/3 of a clean inning for the save.
