I'm not saying he couldn't be in the majors. My point is, if he continues to play SS, where are you playing him? Do you sit Cozart?

BTW...I am willing to bet Janish has more to do with his options situation. This is his last year for options, so it's pretty much play him next year in the majors, trade him, or remove him from the 40 man (which would mean releasing him). I don't think this has anything to do with Hamilton. It has more to do with the fact they don't see Janish in the majors again and want to get something out of him.

When he gets called up it won't be for SS. That is Cozart's to lose. It will be for Drew "strikes out again" Stubbs at CF.

That is kind of my point in my first post. Sending Janish out doesn't clear a spot on the MLB roster for Hamilton (SS is still blocked for many years), and therefore if he is truly going to replace Stubbs, Hamilton should be moved to CF in the minors. So it didn't even clear a minor league spot for Hamilton. Janish being traded was simply about Janish and the fact this is his last year with options. He was going to be gone at the end of the season anyway, so they got something for him while they could.

I'd love to see Cozart and Hamilton split time at SS, and get Hamilton as much reps in the outfield while he's in AA/AAA, just in case. That'd be my perfect way to ease Hamilton into the Majors.

As for Janish, I agree with what you were saying. Best to get some value for him while the value is still there, and I'm glad they snagged up a pitcher, but I'd still like to see a move for an outfielder (which likely won't happen).

How about this...

1. Hamilton proves he's MLB worthy as a base-runner and defensively as a SS or moves to 2B

2. Cozart shows the ability to play both SS and 2B and plays the one Hamilton doesn't

3. Phillips moves to LF

just saying...it won't happen, but that could potentially be a solution. It doesn't resolve the world of suck that is CF though. And this is a few years down the road, when Phillips range starts to decline a tad at 2nd base as a theoretical.
