Reds Tidbits (2012 Season)

Somewhat interesting article from Fangraphs on the Reds CF/LF situation.

Some of the trade ideas are way off and it may be too SABER for some but thought it was worth a read.

Stubbs has been the least valuable qualified center fielder in the game this year.
........................
Speaking of platoons, Cincy?s left-field platoon has not worked out all that well ? only five teams have employed less valuable left-field units this season.

Stop me if anyone has heard this stuff before

Pretty impressive weekend for the Redlegs. There's a lot of reasons they're on a six-game winning streak, but chief among them is the way they're hitting.

They're hitting so well that it's been at least a week or two since I got a tweet demanding that hitting coach Brook Jacoby be fired. In the month of June, the Reds are hitting .287/.355/.475.

They lead the National League in hitting for the month. They lead the majors in on-base and slugging percentage for the month.

Brandon Phillips is having a nice month. He's hitting .323, four home runs, 16 RBI (And he wasn't making that up. I see him practice plays like the one he made Sunday all the time). Zack Cozart is hitting .356 and has an NL-leading 14 runs.

But Joey Votto has been otherworldly. He's hitting .491/.574/.818 over the 15 games. Overall, Votto is hitting .366/.489/.652. His MVP year, he hit .324/.424/.600.

Less Costanzo and Stubbs plus a healthy Phillips is working out pretty well, it seems. Missing both the #1 & #2 pitchers for the Indians and Mets probably didn't hurt either.

When I went to the game last Thursday, it appeared that the entire lineup had a gameplan when they went to the plate, especially against the Indians starter.

Another thing I saw was some dude with a freakishly long mullet, born to kill tattoo and the required Air Jordans (just to complete the white trash look) wondering why Mescoraco wasn't sent on a bloop single to center field from 2nd base, but that's another issue entirely.

I can't put my finger on it, but tonight feels like a pretty important game for some reason. I hope they can just get the win tonight.

Is this the game where Lowe plunks Votto leading to Dutsy charging the mound, killing Lowe, and being sent to jail so he can never manage the Reds ever again? That would be pretty big and very important for the future of the Reds.

I will say this in defense of Dusty, they're not chicken shit cowards anymore. Ten years ago Danny Graves would've come in and airmailed his retaliation pitch into the backstop and the skipper wouldn't have done a thing about it.
