Reds make four-year deal with Cueto official

By Mark Sheldon / MLB.com | 01/26/11 6:24 PM EST

CINCINNATI -- The Reds' busy winter continued as they finalized a four-year, $27 million contract to avoid arbitration with starting pitcher Johnny Cueto on Wednesday after the right-hander passed his physical.
The deal, according to The Associated Press, will pay the 24-year-old Cueto $3.4 million in 2011, $5.4 million in 2012, $7.4 million in 2013 and $10 million in 2014. There is a $10 million club option for 2015 that carries an $800,000 buyout. Cueto, who hails from the Dominican Republic, made $445,000 in 2010 and was already enjoying the benefits of the big salary increase.

Some of the reds were signing autographs at Polaris Mall today...anyone go? I have my collection limited to Buckeyes but I think I'm going to meet Mr. Rose in a few months at his signing just because outside Barry Larkin he's one of my favorite Reds.

Isringhausen throws for Reds in Arizona

GM Jocketty unsure if club will pursue veteran reliever

By Mark Sheldon / MLB.com | 01/31/11 6:34 PM EST

CINCINNATI -- Reliever Jason Isringhausen had a throwing session for the Reds on Monday, but it remains to be seen if the club will sign the right-hander.
Isringhausen threw for Reds pitching coach Bryan Price in Arizona. He is seeking a Minor League contract with the club and an invite to Spring Training. "He threw the ball fine, well enough to feel optimistic that with a Spring Training to build his arm strength, he could get back to being productive again," Price said. "That is if he can stay healthy, which is a top concern for anybody coming off an arm injury."

Price impressed with Willis' offseason results

Reds pitching coach hopes lefty can help in crowded bullpen

By Mark Sheldon / MLB.com | 02/02/11 1:48 PM EST

CINCINNATI -- In exactly two weeks, when pitchers and catchers report to Reds Spring Training in Arizona on Feb. 16, former starting pitcher Dontrelle Willis' quest to revive his career as a left-handed reliever formally begins.
In reality, however, that effort began in earnest weeks ago. Willis makes his offseason home in Scottsdale, Ariz., the same city in which Reds pitching coach Bryan Price resides. They have been working together in throwing sessions, and Price has been impressed with the results.
