Reds Tidbits (2011 Season)

The Nationals are one of the worst organizations in baseball. I doubt either prospect makes much of an impact (although the guy in single A might be able to make it in the majors), but it's better than nothing for a guy that was completely worthless. On top that, I read a writer for the Nationals state they did it to get a type B free agent pick. Yeah, that means you would have to offer arbitration to a guy that will take it in a heartbeat. He would be lucky for a team to offer him a minor league deal, let alone hand him arbitration.

Anyway, see ya Derp. You won't be missed.

Exactly. You don't get the picks unless the guy turns down arbitration.

Gomes will accept arbitration as quick as anyone on this board would.

Always thought he was a good guy, just a lousy ballplayer. Good deal for everyone (except the Nats).

Hernandez loafing on a double by Alonso. There were two outs, ball drilled down the line, and Hernandez is jogging to second and looking back at the hit. Terrible baseball. I am not sure he would have scored since he has zero speed, but still just terrible.

StubbsK and BruceK go a combined 1-10 with 6 K's and 7 LOB.

:shake:

This ugly bitch of a fuck all season is over.

The sad thing is, those are two guys that should be getting better. Yet they are starting to regress. Once again I have to look at the coaching staff. There is no reason they should be stagnating or regressing (unless Bruce got his contract and stopped working, but I don't think that is the case). I have a hard time believing they have hit their ceiling.

Rolen I understand. Votto I understand since pitchers are pitching around him. Phillips is Phillips. The fucksticks in left field have always sucked, same with SS. Hanigan is what he is, and I think we all knew he would come back to earth. Yet Bruce and Stubbs should not be struggling like this. At least Bailey and Cueto have improved like you would expect (although injured at times). Yet hitting simply has not improved with guys who should see improvement.

Well now that Gomes is gone and the season is tanked it time to look ahead.

Alonzo, Cozart and Frazier are up. Trade Hernandez and call up Mesoraco and lets at least get a long look at what the future holds. The negative here is even if Yonder can rake he's left handed and teh Dusty won't know what the fuck to do with 3 LH hitters. Also we'd still have no leadoff hitter (even though we'd have a SS ironically enough.) Upside is if Cozart is just an average bat and Alonzo & Mes both blow up the lineup gets a huge boost. Somebody (Frazier/Francisco) is going to have to play 3B because Rolen is done. Trade bait is what Francisco and Heisey? Not sure what they do with Sappelt (and this of course assumes Alonzo hits enough to take the job.) I'm assuming Walt goes for the scrappy vet bench/role players and doesn't keep the kids around for that. Maybe not, they are cheap.

Next stretch out Chapman. If he can become a TOR starter it changes everything. Pray for some good luck and Homers shoulder to stay attached to his body because he's still the closest thing to an ace stuff wise the Reds have. Cueto, Bailey, Leake, Chapman plus ???? next year with Willis, Wood, Volquez and Arroyo around for depth/trade (not BA with his contract). Best case is you have 4 very good pitchers, worst case is they continue to be a collection of #3's and/or Homers shoulder explodes.

Once you do that the next wave of talent is all down in the lower minors if I'm not mistaken.

I actually think Heisley is pretty good. I wouldn't use him as trade bait.

If Alonzo lives up to his potential it makes Heisey expendable but he's a good young, cheap 4th OF that's for sure. Then again add Sappelt to the mix and someone needs to go. Plus you have Francisco running around able to play LF and 3B (theoretically). He's the mofo I would trade as soon as he got off the DL. I have zero faith in him making it at the MLB level.

The more you look at it the worse shape they are in at 3B with Rolen tango uniform and only Frazier in house. I have no idea of he's ready to be an every day 3B.

You left out one important step, fire Dusty.
