They should've countered by asking for Jimenez, Street and Tulo just to show them what a waste of time that offer was before starting to talk business for real.

It might actually get it done, and the Reds won't have to give up anything major in the deal. Perfect fit for this team. Might salvage the season (unlikely, but hey, why not), and won't mortgage the future either. Do a similar thing for Kuroda and this team might be able to make a run without ruining the future. Of course Kuroda won't replace the one guy that needs to be replaced (Arroyo), but he would be better than Willis.

I know Dusty will quickly put out any fire this team may catch, but it would show good will to the fans that the organization doesn't give up on a season.
Frazier + a low level prospect would be a great combo. Highly unlikely they would develop into anything serious, but enough talent to tease the Mets into a deal. Since the Mets appear willing to eat his contract, why not give it a shot? Nothing really lost.

scott91575;1959573; said:Well, it would have been Bray for the whole inning if he would have brought in a reliever right away, at least until after Beltran. Reyes is better hitting left handed, same with Beltran.
Of course Ondrusek would have come in the next inning, but might have only given up 2 runs instead of 4 (2 that were inherited).
I am just sick of Dusty trying to save his bullpen just in case. It's simple statistics, and if you play them you will have a better winning percentage. It's not rocket science. A pitcher with a 4 ERA who has already thrown 100+ pitches is more likely to give up runs than pretty much anyone in the bullpen (all of the bullpen pitchers have better ERA's except Chapman, and that is mostly due to his incredible wildness a while back). If it was Cueto out there dealing, I would be more likely to keep him out there. Yet this is Leake, and he just gave up 2 hits the previous inning on top of the pitch count I mentioned.
As a wise man once said, you play to win the game. Not Dusty, he plays to win some hypothetical game in the future which may never happen at the expense of the current game. Of course that doesn't even work out. The bullpen worked just as much, and they lost the game.
Jaxbuck;1959574; said:same principle applies when they decide not to let two LH hitters go back to back even if they are the 2 best hitters on the team. better to sacrifice 2/3 of the game so the opposing manager can't get over on you and get 2 outs from his LOOGY in one hypothetical late inning.
