Reds Tidbits (2011 Season)

Bailey's two starts have been against the Astros. It's as if he got to continue his rehab at AAAA. Granted, he's still been an upgrade over what some of the other guys had been doing so far against the likes of teams like that.

Cueto's performance against a team like the Whiny Bitches was legit. Here's hoping that was the beginning of bringing their bats back down to earth.

Well, it's only 2 starts each. I know we differed on their impact, but we still need to give them a couple of months before we can evaluate their real impact. In other words, I'm not ready to gloat just yet:wink2:

:wink2: I hear you.

In all seriousness the SP as a whole was due to get somewhat better even before they came back (at least according to FIP and such).

Before the season it was all really about can one/more of Cueto, Bailey, EV take that next step? The jury is still out but while none will ever be a Josh Johnson type true ace, we need them to be better than the worlds largest collection of solid #3 starters.

To me that's the single biggest thing that will determine the future of the franchise for the next few years because no matter how deep the farm is it's damn near impossible to bring in that true ace from outside.

All the possible position scenario's can be dealt with but they have nothing in the minors to fill the TOR void, it has to be one of the three we already have (I just don't think its ever going to be Leake or Wood). Chapman is the wildcard but he's at least 1-2 years away from answering the question himself.

Good news in my eyes is that unlike almost every other season in my life as a Reds fan we are betting on a somewhat reasonable scenario, not 5 fucking miracles all happening at the same time (The Jimmy's becoming pitchers, CP/WT becoming hitters etc).

After betting my summers on lottery odds for 40 some odd years I'll gladly take some 5-1 action.

In terms of fantasy value, Stubbs is currently ranked #6 among everyday players, and #9 overall if you add pitchers, according to Yahoo. Leading off in this offense and being able to steal bases obviously keys his value.

Bautista, Braun, Kemp, Berkman, and Adrian Gonzalez are the only position players ranked higher. Votto is #13 overall.

must be an east side joint. :)

Must be. It looks nothing like what goes down on the west side of town:

and from the useless but interesting stat department....

Since the start of the 2004 season, the Cardinals have allowed a leadoff homer in three-or-more innings of a game four times, and all four of those games have come against the Reds.

BTW...for some reason I have a sudden urge to cruise Glenway for chicks.
