Reds Tidbits (2011 Season)

Oh man...I HAVE to look around to see if I have a set lying around somewhere. So much fun as a kid to track the scores/standings.

If not...I'm going right to Amazon.

BP Store. :wink2:

Be warned though - the ones that they sell nowadays don't seem to come with any kind of way to prop up the placard. I had to cut out the plastic blister pack in such a way to keep the backside intact, then I hung it up on the wall beside my desk.

A couple of random things lost in the huge turnaround in pitching....

Stubbs is quietly having a borderline all star year. He is on pace for 125 runs, 54 stolen bases (only 1 caught stealing, although he has been picked off first), 29 home runs, and 83 RBI. His defense has also been really good. Not quite gold glove yet, but he is getting there. His strikeouts per at bat are also down (although still high).

Hernandez now has a 9 game hit streak. His defense has also been really good.

Now they need to get rid of Gomes and have Bruce to pick it up a little, and this team will be really tough to beat.

Finally got around to reading Cards Talk... WOW.

The fact that Cards fans were seeking justice for a shitkicking replacement-level backup catcher that they've managed to turn into a baseball martyr made the way today's game went down that much sweeter.

 love cards fan, on another forum that i post on, theres a cards fan and he's just as butt hurt, after he called BP a no talent hack last night, i made a small comment after today's game...response from him..

He isn't good. Never has been. He had a good game against a suspect pitcher congrats. Only player on yourr team that is good is.Otto.

It was interesting to see cueto not on his back trying to maim people with his cleats tho. Classy reds

then 2 posts later

If you consider a career .269 batter good, sure.

Then again with the talent in Ohio I could see how you mistake mediocrity for talent

Further random stuff, down on the farm some things are really looking up for either the future or trade possibilities....

I mentioned Alonso who is now hitting really well and playing LF.
Todd Frazier has turned it around big time, and starting to get legit MLB consideration. This is huge. He is really starting to turn some heads and his value has started to skyrocket. This leaves the Reds with two 3B prospect with Francisco.
Cozart is hitting at a decent rate. Will probably never be considered a major prospect, but getting consideration for MLB level player at SS.
Mesaraco is keeping up his resurgence and becoming one of the top C prospects in all of baseball.
Grandal is hitting with power, and being mentioned as one of the top 5 catching prospects in baseball (giving the Reds two of the top prospects in one of the most high demand positions in baseball).
Dontrelle Willis pitched a decent game, but the main plus is he is keeping down the walks. He could be a long man or even emergency starter at this rate.
Boxberger is putting up good numbers in AA. He has 29 SO in 16.2 innings. Definitely a strong candidate for the bullpen in the next couple of years. Still a little wild, but overall really strong.

There are of course the other prospects that are still really young but have lots of trade value. Billy Hamilton and Yorman Rodriguez are struggling, but still have strong trade value. Juan Duran is becoming a question mark, but still has value.

Overall the farm system is looking really strong at this point, and the Reds have tons of value for trades and/or players who can step into holes that this team will have in the near future.

I'll admit I missed this one by a mile. I really didn't think Cueto &HB would make that much difference. There are some other things that have gone with it but who cares, just keep winning.

Well, it's only 2 starts each. I know we differed on their impact, but we still need to give them a couple of months before we can evaluate their real impact. In other words, I'm not ready to gloat just yet:wink2:
