Reds Tidbits (2011 Season)

The Brewers manager should be fired for pitching to Votto in that situation. He tried to steal an out from a guy who hits everybody, with a base open. Your sidearm-throwing junkballing LOOGY ain't THAT special.

Did the Brewers pull their sidearm thrower and replace him with and underhanded thrower? Is Cat Osterman warming up in the bullpen?

EDIT: Of course, that slop is good enough to strike out Gomes. :shake:

EDIT 2: Marty says, "Hermida was on deck, but they're gonna save him." FOR WHAT??? They're gonna save me for wanting to wring Dusty's neck for giving him an AB.

Yeah you walk anyone there to set up the DP, let alone Votto.

P.S.
The inevitable Gomes regression has arrived and nothing about it is going to be pleasant.

The Reds' bench is woefully thin. They need upgrades across the entire left side of the field - at least an average SS, a more dependable veteran sub at 3B and a LF thumper. Guys like Gomes, Janish and Cairo all have contributions to make, but you're living on borrowed time with all three of them starting games.

I know this is a crazy retarded idea, and I am not a believer that the early season trends are necessarily going to continue, but while Gomes is taking walks like he is, should we consider him at leadoff? His terrible batting average is killing us when he has to hit with people on base, but his OBP is still very high, and with as well as Votto and Phillips are hitting right now, he may score a lot of runs. He doesn't have Stubbs speed but he's got 5 SB so he can occasionally swipe a bag to get to 2nd.

I'm just trying to think of a way that, if you have to play him, you can potentially play to his strengths right now. I think the terrible average/high OBP combo is probably better suited for the lead-off spot then trying to bat guys in in the 5 hole.

Along those same lines, maybe the #2 spot in the order should just rotate to whoever is sucking the worst coming into that day's game. Votto should earn a commission on all future contracts for players who get to bat in front of him.
